Selected User Reviews For Vortex Optics Ranger Laser Rangefinders

For ranges of 500 yards and under, this range finder is excellent
4/5

It was impossible to find any reviews regarding the Vortex Ranger 1500 rangefinder anywhere on the internet. The ranger 1000 had good reviews, the warranty was excellent, and the price made it a great deal more affordable. I'm glad I decided to take a chance on it, because it turned out to be a great purchase. As soon as the brown truck dropped off my Amazon package, I started scanning everything I could see around my house. I haven't had a chance to take it hunting yet, but I've already started scanning everything around my house. There was a very bright afternoon with the sun approximately 35 degrees off of the horizon directly behind a herd of cattle. At 641 yards, I was able to range the black cow at the farthest distance I could see. Repeatedly, I measured the distance on the same distance gauge. In ranging the cow, the unit gave a reading three or four times out of five. Under the same conditions, myself and my deck rail were able to range a red barn at 1161 yards using the deck rail as a rest. Without the rest, I couldn't hold the target steady to get the In a field of 450 yards of closely eaten grass in front of my house, I was able to obtain information about the grass on the ground. When the sun sank below the mountains, I pulled it out again as soon as it darkened. My surprise was maximized when the herd of cows moved closer and I was able to get readings on the furthest cow repeatedly without using a rest. I was far from steady and did not expect to come up with a readout, so I was pleasantly Also, I was able to get a return of 1230 yards on a white The Ranger 1500 is a large instrument. I was surprised by the size of it. I used a steady rest for this reading. I can literally hold it in one hand. At 7, it's tiny, but sturdy. Despite its relatively low weight of 7 ounces, compared to similar products I considered purchasing, it is significantly more durable. Considering I walk long distances with a heavy pack when I'm hunting, the light weight is a boon for me. It had not occurred to me to think about the optics with the Ranger, but if you have, you will be pleased with what you see. There is no ambiguity in them.

I will update this review as I use the Ranger 1500 under different conditions, such as on snowy days and under cloudy skies. Additionally, I will add an update whenever I have the chance to range small animals such as deer and coyotes. My normal approach would be to wait to write this review until I have used the range finder further, but since there are no other reviews, I am giving my initial impressions to help others who may be considering this product. With limited use, I give the Ranger 1500 two thumbs Despite the price being a little higher than that of the Ranger 1500, I do not think you can beat it for the features it delivers at the price point, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. This is an update from 2/6/16. I have been able to try out the Ranger 1500 a few more times and here are a few of the things I discovered It was almost direct sunlight with a very thin 10 percent overcast layer, so I was able to range a deer at 561 yards in a field covered in snow. My deer must stand broadside and I have to have a completely solid rest in order to get a reading. I was only able to get a reading in 40 percent of the times I attempted. I ranged black lava rocks at 550 yards before sunrise on a clear morning between 15 minutes and an hour before sunrise. During the same time period, sage brush can range a distance of just past 500 yards over the same plains covered in snow It is a beautiful sunrise. It was a clear, sunny day at noon, so I ranged my 80 pound German Shepherd about 350 yards in the snow. Since he came back to the house at that point, I don't know how much further I could have obtained a reading from any circumstances, I have not been able to range cows beyond 660 yards, and I have tried numerous times. My range record for a lone juniper tree at 1060 yards was solid thanks to a solid rest. As I walked through the foliage, I was surprised to find it I'm now going to tell you the bad news. There has been an intermittent problem starting up the Ranger 1500. Whenever the problem reared its head, the unit was sitting on the dash of my truck with the defrosting There was a pleasant warmth about the unit, but it wasn't scorching. My unit gave me a low battery reading the whole time I was out hunting in mid-20 degree weather. Prior to leaving home, I had a nearly new lithium battery that fluctuated between a full three bars and two bars on the power meter. The unit appears to have a problem, so I am returning it so I can get a new one that works Next, I want to bring up the following In my experience with ranging cows of all ages, I am unsure if I will be able to range a deer at 750 yards as the company claims. As a whole, I still think it is a very good unit for the price, but I have dropped my ratings from 5 stars to 4. Having the Ranger 1500 allow you to range deer-sized animals at 500 yards, then you should be very satisfied with this hunting machine. Trying to range them beyond 500 yards may be challenging for the Vortex Ranger 1500, especially if you are looking to do so more than once. I have updated After my Vortex Ranger 1500 was damaged, I decided to replace it with a Leica 2000-class digital rangefinder. Unlike the Vortex Ranger 1500, the Ranger 1500 does what it can't do. For the long range shooting I wanted to do, it just wasn't possible to consistently range objects at a distance that was sufficient for the Ranger 1500. will only shoot within 500 yards, the Vortex Ranger 1500 should serve you well, and with the warranty it has, it is probably a good choice to make. If you will shoot beyond that limit, it is not the best choice.

This piece of crap is made in China
3/5

This rangefinder has been made in China in the first place. The products Vortex makes are all made in China, the Philippines, or Japan (and nothing made in the U. S. ). In light of that, it performs pretty cheaply based on the materials and assembly processes it was made with. After purchasing this, I took it on two mule deer hunts, one in Montana and the other in To check my rifle scope zero, I went to a 300 yard rifle range when I arrived in Montana. 200 and 300 yards were too far away for the rangefinder to reach 2 foot targets. In open country, I tried to range multiple deer, elk, and cows standing still on the first day of my hunt and could not get a range on any of them. Thankfully, the rangefinders my dad and guide had (Bushnell) did work and were about $100 that I was able to use to calculate my distances accurately. After failing in open country once again in Nebraska, this cheap piece of junk failed back to back. A lot of my friends had rangefinders (Bushnell & Co. The Leupolds) provided rangefinders that worked. Several deer were too far from 200 to 200 yards for me to determine their range I could not get a range of a cow in the middle of a river at 400 yards that stood in the middle of a river, even though the cow was at 300 The short version of this is do not buy this product. It is unreliable when it comes to the important stuff, and it is heavily constructed. If I were to buy a rangefinder, I would choose a Leupold or Leica rangefinder, since they are made in the US and Germany instead of.

I am limited by my range of 550 yards
5/5

It seems that I can't range further than 550 yards. I do not have anything to compare it to, so I am Not sure if I expected the full range, but I expected at least a little more. After a few weeks, vortex ended up sending me a brand new unit that they had tested before shipping. I was expecting more from a rangefinder, that's why I'm much pleased. The fact that Vortex stands behind its products is great!.

We are offering the best value
5/5

I bought this after this reticle failed to work on my Leupold RX-120 The machine suddenly degenerated to the point that more than 50% of it contains dead spots, making it completely It only lasts four years (no more than 25 hours max) before it needs something new. My decision was not to buy that item As a fan of the Vortex quality, backed by the VIP warranty, I have gradually moved from other brands to Vortex. So far, I have not been In this unit as well, this is true. In comparison to the RX, it has better ergonomics, its optics are just as clear (if not clearer), it uses the same CR2 battery, and it weighs the same (8 ounces). When quality, functionality, performance, and the warranty are taken into account, this is the best value. I would like to draw your attention to two Currently, it only displays ranges in 1 yard increments (no tenths), but for ballistics it displays in 0. 1 yard increments Even if it is separated by half yard, it is still "in the noise. ". When viewed in HCD (aka TBR) mode, it does not display the incline angle. The incline is only offered when the LOS mode is selected. If this is good supplemental data, it would be nice if the algorithm displayed it, since it has to know it in order to calculate TBR Due to the limited accuracy of the TBR, the incline will vary depending on the range to the.

There was a part of me that really wanted to love this
3/5

I love how small, sexy, and solid it feels in the hand, with a clip on the side, I can attach it to my combat rig with ease. The exception is. When it's sunny, it's impossible to use. I have three brightness settings, but they do not come close to being bright enough (I can attach pictures, but for some reason I am unable to do so). This thing has been viewed by everyone in my family and none of them think it's practical for daylight use. Moreover, the display is pretty lousy it looks like an alarm clock from the 1980s that is on its last legs. I'm not sure. Maybe it was a bad day. Whatever the case may be, we'll get it back.
