On the outside, there's nothing but hard, flat leather. I'm not sure if Protektor uses something to keep it flat, such as a metal plate.

I'm guessing that the most commonly used shooting bags are those made by Caldwell, so this review will include comparisons to a Caldwell bag. Since I brought up the subject of cost, I'll mention that I paid $30 for the Caldwell bag pictured. In addition, I paid $34 on Amazon for this Protektor Model bag. As a result, the price difference between the two was only $4. You'll get nice, thick leather with good stitching for an extra $4. It will provide you with a solid, thick foundation. The ears are not connected to the base and are filled independently. And you'll get a good sand fill out of it. The Caldwell bag, on the other hand, is made of a mix of soft suede, canvas, and thin vinyl. It has a soft foundation. There is no distinction between the ears and the base. Caldwell, on the other hand, fills their bags with ordinary play sand. br>br>Both bags arrived slightly over-stuffed. filled. This isn't a flaw in the product; it's something the manufacturer did on purpose. It's preferable to have sand but not require it than to require it but lack it. The base section of the Protektor Model bag came filled exactly how I like it, but the ears had too much sand. Upon removing some fill from the ears, I was surprised to see that it contained black chromite sand, which is a heavier, higher-quality fill for a shooting bag. If you're unfamiliar with different types of sand, which most people are, chromite sand is a heavier, higher-quality fill for a shooting bag. Pre-made bags are the most common. Play sand (the kind your kids play in at the park) will be included. Serious benchrest shooters use chromite sand, which is much denser than play sand. It's pretty cool that this bag already has it, especially at this price, because the Caldwell bag had play sand in it and was so over-priced. About a tablespoon of sand had leaked out into the bag it was wrapped in, causing the seams to stretch apart. Because the Caldwell bag doesn't separate the ears and base, I drained some sand to my liking and mashed the bag around until the ears had enough fill. When the ears run out of fill, simply flip the Caldwell bag over and fill them up again. It's a problem that never seems to go away. br>br>To ensure that this Protektor Model bag sits flush on a shooting bench, it has a thick plastic layer at the bottom. Shooting bags without this type of base tend to take on a more round shape, making them less stable on flat surfaces. My Caldwell bag is an excellent example of what I'm referring to. It's more rounded, and I have to mash it into the desired shape all of the time. Finally, the Protektor Model bag is made of REAL leather of the highest quality. Strong nylon threads are used to stitch it together. The quality of the materials used in this bag should never cause you any problems if used properly. When the leather has stretched a little over time, simply re-fill it with some of the sand you drained when it was new. As a result, I save all of the sand that I remove from my shooting bags. In comparison, the Caldwell bag's base is made up of what appears to be suede leather on the bottom, canvas on the sides, and a very thin vinyl-like material on the top. The top and ears are made of a ish material. I'm guessing it's an attempt to keep the bottom from wearing out, the sides from stretching, and the top from becoming slick. The seams were already stretched to the point of leaking sand when I received it, so it's unlikely that this bag will last as long as the Protektor Model bags. br>br>There are some photos that compare the two bags described. It's nothing to be concerned about because I use white powder to make them slicker. I hope this helps to show how the quality of the materials used has a direct impact on the shape and function of the bags.
I hadn't used a rear bag before and thought I'd give it a shot. It isn't expressed in the word "WOW. " This is fantastic. It's extremely well-made. It's a nice piece of equipment, and the fact that it's made in the United States is fantastic. What's more, this: I've been hunting coyotes on my ranch for the past six weeks or so, ever since I got a thermal scope. I go out at night to hunt them, and the wind is almost always blowing from the north. S or S- My scent isn't an issue because I'm sitting roughly perpendicular to the wind. So I sit in my truck, protected from the wind and the cold for the most part. I adjust my rifle position and scan back and forth by raising and lowering the window. Last night, on my first hunt since receiving this bag, I decided to hang it upside down on the window glass (bunny ears straddling the glass)! It served as an excellent rest and pivot for the rifle. I was able to scan, rest the rifle in my lap while the handguard sat on the bottom of the bag, and repeat the process without difficulty. My homemade bag would frequently fall off (almost always when I was getting out of the truck), but this one stayed put. Very nice, and the price appears to be far too low for the quality I believe I received. After that, I'm not going to bench shoot without it.
I tried on a few bags, including some that belonged to friends, and the only ones I liked cost more than $100. This Protektor 13A bag is perfect for me, and it's a great price; it's well-made with high-quality materials, and the model I bought was packed to the brim - I've never seen a bag packed so full - It doesn't move at all and keeps its shape perfectly. If you plan to squeeze the bag to change elevation more than a little, it might not be the best option, but you could let some of the filler out in that case. Ensure that you purchase his model, which has a thicker, more durable base. br>br>Updated in May 2014 - I bought another Protektor bag with the same configuration and features as the subject bag, but with new silver material for the ear covers, not long after using the subject bag. Their new'silvery' fabric is incredibly smooth. I had been powdering the original bag to make it easier for the rifle stock to slide. Well, without anything added to it, the new material is a lot slicker. Protektor has come up with yet another fantastic bag. (As well as a higher F-) T/R is also a plus!.
Excellent work. The Caldwell rock is a night and day difference from the cheap rest. The rifle is stable, tough, and easy to use. What you pay for is exactly what you get. Before almost all of the large corporations sent most of their manufacturing to Asia to produce inferior products that would last a year, have no warranty, and be thrown away, made in the USA quality meant something different.
This leather bag appeals to my senses. I use it in competitive situations. Shooting in the 22nd league. It securely holds my rifle, so I don't have to worry about it rolling out of my Rabbit Ear bag. It was already filled when I bought it. The construction is excellent. I would buy it again if I could.
This sandbag is fantastic; it comes filled with sand that you can drain to your liking. It appears to be of good quality leather and stitching, with a hard bottom that allows it to sit flat on the bench or on the ground. Because each bunny ear has its own cavity and the base is also separate, you can adjust it in a variety of ways. The sand is black, not ordinary play sand, and the price is unbeatable!.
br>The first time I used it, I got better groups and scores. The low-cost alternatives are no longer an option for me. It appeals to me. br> The 10- ring is not one of them.
I was hesitant to spend this much money, but I was fed up with the standard poly bags breaking at the seams and leaking sand, and this bag has the added benefit of gripping my butt stock much better. I purchased both sizes and am extremely pleased with them. Buy once- cry once. These should last a long time, even if I don't.
