Questions & Answers

What is the expected lifespan of this product?

It's lasted a long time so far. Although it is light, I used a lag bolt to secure it to the 4x4 pole in the center. Otherwise, it was only holding on by the weight of the feed, which I didn't like. I used shark teeth to keep animals out of my 4x4 and it has worked well so far. I've only had it for three or four months, but if it can stand up to the Texas heat, it'll be a keeper.

Is it possible for cows to eat from a feed trough?

I don't have cows, but I'm guessing if you put something they eat in it, they'd eat it. In other words, a cow will not be able to eat it. However, for deer, it is an excellent feeder.

Are you debating whether to get a 150 or a 300? Is there anyone who has both and can advise which is better?

The 300 is what I use. I believe the 150 would be empty in a week almost at my location, with fewer filling trips and more ports for the deer to eat at at the same time. At least 300 have been filled in the last three weeks.

Is this a two- or four-chute version? The pictures show a two-chute model, but all of the reviews show a four-chute model. ?

My four-chute feeder cost $300, but there is a two-chute model that is less expensive.

Selected User Reviews For Banks Outdoors Gravity Fed Deer and Game Hunting Feeders

This purchase has exceeded my expectations! The only thing I would have done differently is to order directly from Sportsman's Guide and avoid paying the tax on this product; I've ordered from them before and didn't realize it was coming from them when I ordered it from Amazon
5/5

It was entirely my fault. In terms of the product, it's fantastic, and we've been watching deer eat from it for over a month. It is gravity fed and mounts on a 4X4 post. The product's instructions are simple to follow and tell you exactly how long of a post you'll need and how deep of a hole you'll need to dig to get the feeder at the right height for deer. We saw in other reviews that people used tackstrips, etc. , on the post to keep squirrels, raccoons, and other knawing varmints at bay, so we tried it right away. Plastic with a high tensile strength and a good grip. There are no moving parts or batteries to deal with, so it's a no-brainer.

It can support a maximum weight of 250 pounds
3/5

Not 300. During the off-season, I use it to supplement whitetails. It only holds 250 pounds of AntlerMax Protein Pellets, not the 300 pounds claimed by the manufacturer. They must either correct it or clarify it. I still like it because I can fill it from the ground and it only has one central 4x4 post, which I prefer to outside legs for preventing bucks from bumping their developing antlers against metal. Most vermin have been kept out by putting pvc around the 4x4, though one mature raccoon has managed to get onto the outside platform. I'm about 40" above the ground with the tubes. I'd buy another one if it didn't weigh less than 300 pounds and wasn't so expensive. The latches are prone to failure, and the lid is flimsy. Its retail price should be in the range of $199-$199. $229. I'm looking for a different brand because I've noticed that supplement protein helps the herd by adding mass, browtine quality, and "junk" to antlers in the winter and early summer. Although there are far too many variables to accurately assess the impact, I do notice a difference overall.

Deer, not pigs, should be fed
5/5

Before buying this feeder, I tried broadcast feeders, which the deer didn't like, so I just started pouring corn on the ground, which worked great until the wild hog population in my area began to increase. Due to the pigs, I was going through 50 pounds of corn per night at the time, and the deer didn't always get their fair share. I bought this feeder, and it was very easy to set up. If you live in an area where there are hogs, I recommend securing your pole with sack creat or securing it deeper than recommended to prevent hogs from rubbing on the pole and knocking corn out. It only took a week for the deer to start eating out of it, and they absolutely adore it! Corn consumption has decreased from 50 pounds per night to 10 pounds per day, and I am no longer feeding the pigs!.

Good feeder; however, the height should be adjusted
4/5

Feeder sits too low with 4 feet of post above ground. I installed the post according to the instructions, but the feeder is too low, especially for our hog-infested property. I'm afraid they'll rip the feeder apart before I get a chance to raise it. It was easy to put together and fill in the end. I'd go with four. However, there must be 5' of post above ground to keep the hogs out.

This is a fantastic feeder that actually works
5/5

I bought this feeder after hearing about it from a friend. I've used both timer feeders and trough feeders. Coons continued to hang out in both, simply shoveling food in. I wanted a feeder that didn't require batteries or maintenance, and that was also out of reach of the critters. This feeder is a one-stop shop for all of your feeding needs. We did have to add a sleeve to the 4x4 to keep the coons from climbing up the post (as Banks suggests), but it was a simple fix. There were also some turkeys who kept hopping up and picking individual corn kernels. However, we were able to solve the problem by adjusting the height of the openings. Deer will acclimate in about two weeks, according to the reviews. It's been a week and a half since the release of this video. The corn and protein are being ripped apart by deer. Overall, this feeder has been a great addition to our supplement feeding program. We are now a family of four, and we are overjoyed. Listen to them crunch as you turn up the volume on the video.

With the gravity feed, they're perfect
3/5

For my food plots, I bought three of these. I've had two bottoms bust due to bears, one of which I had replaced for $40 plus shipping, and the other of which I now need to spend another $60 (AFTER spending $1000 on these three) to get a new bottom piece to repair.

This is a fantastic feeder
5/5

Raccoons are deterred by a metal pole. a puzzle for squirrels So that the hogs don't tip, there are 60s of concrete. We'll have to wait and see. br>br>After three weeks, It has begun to be eaten by deer. Raccoons haven't been able to get to it, so there haven't been any problems. This feeder is extremely well-made and durable. Filling is a breeze. So far, everything has gone well. br>br>At this point, it's been eight weeks. Pigs and raccoons try their hardest, but they can't get in. I'm noticing an increase in the number of deer that I'm seeing.

Buy it! This is an excellent feeder
4/5

It was installed in place of a Boss Buck feeder. br>It performs similarly to the previous one. It doesn't have any legs like that. Deer didn't miss a beat as he made his way from the BB to the Banks. When full of corn, it feels a little top heavy, but it's not going anywhere. In the posthole, I recommend using sackrete. If you're reading this, go ahead and purchase it; it won't let you down.
