As far as weight line goes, I've used up to and including 7 weight line just fine. I've also used floating and sinking line just fine.

It turned out like this for the hair muddlers. They caught fish at a local lake (Fort Patrick Henry Lake in NE TN), even though the temperature was in the 90's and I didn't expect much of a bite. You can cast from 3-foot depths once the fly is wet. With a few hits on the tippet, you can take a 6 inch shot under the surface to as deep as you like. The fly comes in different sizes and is a versatile fly that almost every lake and stream fisherman should have in their fly box.
I have tried them numerous times and I don't think that I have been able to catch anything on them yet, though I think they are well-made and sturdy hooks.
These ugly things are a favorite of bass. In less than an hour, five were caught.
I like it.
Streamers that are well tied.
Fishing for trout was great we did not have to drive a great distance to catch.
