My belief is that this is not true!
This reel can be used with braided line. The CAT1000FC can be used with braid up to 10lb (95yd capacity), 15lb (85yd capacity), or 20lb (65yd capacity). You could also use 6lb or 8lb if you want an even greater My personal preference when I am fishing around obstructions or near heavy cover is to use 15lb on a 1000-size reel. In the event that you get snagged while fishing with a 15lb line, you can pull the lure/rig until it bends and releases itself.
