After only six months, the strap snapped. The hook on this strap broke away from the strap after only 6 months. Prior to that, the safety clip was very flimsy and bent. That wasn't a big deal because I have a backup safety chain, but it does demonstrate how poorly this product is made. This is something I will never buy again. I'm off to go get a new one right now. I'm hoping academy has one because I'd like to use my boat the next day.
The broken strap has been replaced. The materials are of the same thickness and high quality. As expected, it functions properly.
Because I trailer my boat, I rely on the strap to keep it secure on the trailer. Because I fish frequently, I always use the winch strap when removing the boat from the water. Normally, I receive around 6- A strap can last up to 9 months before showing signs of wear and needing to be replaced. If this strap can withstand repeated use, only time will tell.
For a small boat or jet ski, this is a great strap. Essentially, it's a seatbelt strap. I purchased it in the hopes that it would be comparable to an existing strap, but I was disappointed by the thickness and stitching duty where the strap overlaps at the hook end. I'm going to give it a shot, but I'll have to monitor it closely. I'll be on the lookout for a new strap as well.
A 19-foot Carolina skiff was used to replace the boat trailer. Pulling with a small boat over short distances. The majority of the miles would be 30 miles. I'm not sure when I bought it because I can't see the date, but I know it was a short time ago. The strap has already been worn in half, and the hook has rusted. In saltwater, maybe 12 times. After each use, thoroughly clean everything. Other boat-securing methods have also been used. If the strap is going to break that easily, I'm not sure I want to just replace the hook.
This strap appears to be more durable and well-stitched than the original that came with my trailer two years ago, which was a disaster.
The hook lock on my Chaparral trailer's original strap had been damaged, so I had to replace it. It's 15 years old and has been sitting outside for a long time. This is said to be the same level of power. It does, however, appear to be quite frail. The only way to find out is to wait.
This is what I used for my 24 foot boat trailer. I launched my boat with it four times. Then it came to a halt.
