Close the hood after putting the loops in place and tying the bow of the kayak to the loops. It's quick and simple, and it saves the car's grill, which is now made entirely of plastic. My grill has previously been broken. That is no longer the case. Leave them in place, go kayaking, and come back to re-tie everything.
I used to have a single rope running from the canoe's bow to the front bumper of the van. In the wind, the canoe would sway from side to side, requiring me to stop and retangle the ropes on occasion. The canoe was kept from shifting from side to side in the wind thanks to two of these anchors under the hood. I had to tighten the ropes once at a rest stop, but otherwise I was able to maintain interstate highway speeds.
exactly what I was looking for My kayaks have been transported on the roof of my car in J cradles with no front or rear tie downs. I've always felt bad about not using the bow and stern tie downs, but I couldn't find a suitable location for metal hooks to connect to the frame on my small car. I came across these useful little items, and presto! It's a breeze to use and set up. It was exactly what I was looking for.
Because I have an old canoe that is difficult to transport, I purchased these. Instead of pulling rope or carrying the canoe on my shoulders, I wanted some handles to put on the front and back of the canoe for portage and movement on shore. These handles can also be used for tie downs on cars that don't have racks or can't have racks installed. Simply closing the door or hood helps to create a tie-in. a low point I purchased a second pair and gave it to my daughter to use.
hauled Kayaks with confidence for 240 miles! These could also be used for a variety of other purposes. I would strongly suggest it. Note: You can see in my photo that I added some foam, but it isn't necessary. It simply blew off in the end, causing no damage to the hood in the process.
I was hoping for a little more flexibility in the tube portion, but it is very rigid, and it actually raises the hood of my vehicle slightly, so I have decided not to use these as I had planned.
This is fantastic. Excellent value for money. I keep finding uses for it at this price. If you frequently kayak, sailboard, haul ladders, sail, or simply secure loads on racks, these are for you. In the 1980s, I designed a tie-down system and wish I had considered this.
I was concerned about how I would secure my kayaks without scratching the vehicle's paint. I wish I had discovered these earlier.
