Medium is the best word to describe it. Even though there is still a bunch of fabric at my ankles, I like the fact that I will never put them in the dryer if they shrink in the wash.
You should be able to fit in a small, possibly even an extra small depending on how much support you need.
Although it's not lined, a little bit of it does show if you tighten it too much.

I love that it has just the right amount of stretch and that it is not too thick, but not too sheer so your undergarments will show through. Even at 5'9" I can reach my ankles with the leg length. So I ordered M in these and they fit, but they're loose.
