Questions & Answers

It would be fine if I did not have to buy the manduka spray all the time. Have any of you made your own essential oil spray?

Manduka pro series will not absorb any cleanser, according to the company. According to it, 1 is recommended This is the ratio I use, which is 1 vinegar to 1 water, and it works perfectly. It is not a good idea to use soap (even Dr. Bs) since you should probably rinse afterward. It says on the manduka website that if you are using store bought cleaners, you should thoroughly rinse them.

What are the grips like on these mats?

The first time I got it, the ice was really slippery. We also did the vinegar thing and the salt It was great to deal with customer service. The ground is no longer slippery There's just a teeny bit of Some of my friends have had these mats for years and are in love with Therefore, they may develop greater gripping power if you use them more often.

How could such a slippery surface exist?

This mat is great, but it is highly slippery (and hasn't gotten any better over the past six months). An issue was discussed on a forum, and a solution was proposed. I would suggest following the following suggestions 1) Buy some J&B You guys should be able to use it!

How should I use salt and brush to break this mat in? Can you recommend a particular brand or type of salt?

Nancy Kossman made a great point, and I agree. In reality, that would be more for cleaning mats. In order to break it in, I did not use salt. My teeth would feel a little slick at first, but after a few uses, they were fine. I didn't do anything special to break them in except to use them.

I had high hopes for this
3/5

Today, I regret what I did. The product was researched for weeks before it was purchased. I read a lot of reviews and several complained about how slippery the Pro mat is. Having read about the salt break-in, and how with time it will improve, I have high hopes for this. Considering the reputation of the company and the positive reviews out numbered the slippery complaints, I got a Manduka Pro float. My love for it and my reason for buying I am drawn to this color or pattern. "Float" color reminds me of the ocean, which is when I am in my absolute best mood. My knees are very pleased with the 6MM padding. does not move, it is heavy and stable, so it stays put and does not move around. It is wonderful how long 85" is! It is the mat that I don't like, and that I am not interested in. There is sweat on the mat, making it slippery. After about 30 minutes into a practice, the mats became extremely slippery. I did the salt treatment twice before using the mats for the first time. The Manduka mat wash has been my staple for cleaning my mat six times a week for the past four weeks. The situation remains the same, slipper. It is not my intention to practice hot yoga, so I won't be using a mat towel. When this is the case, there should be a towel included. It was an investment for me, so I'll keep it until I can afford to replace it. Even though I know what I know today, I would not buy it. We wish Manduka would replace this with an EKO mat, as I read they are thinner but have better wet traction. An alternative would be to issue a refund. After you break in the mat, under their famous warranty, you are not allowed to return it for a full refund. Because I had to do this before I could use the product. As long as you make sure that you understand the conditions of the lifetime warranty, it isn't quite what it seems. In the event that this changes, the mat gets grippy, or I receive a replacement, I will be glad to.

The mat did not break in satisfactorily for the first three months and I spent a great deal of time amazed at the company's practice of selling one of these
5/5

Although its slippery nature initially put me off, it is now my main mat and I absolutely love it! I have loved it since I got it in August of last year. I found that it was difficult to break in the mat for the first three months and I was amazed that the company managed to sell one of the most expensive mats on the market-- until finally I was able to break in the mat satisfactorily. You cannot grip it when you first use it, given the lack of grip. As I followed all instructions, I had to have faith that I would be able to remove the slick outer layer- I've sat on the mat some times in the sun, sunk it in salt, and then place it in the pool. In desperation to break up this layer, I even washed it in my gigantic clothes washer on cold -- an unnecessary step, due to both damage to the washer as well as the mat. My shoes were on when I walked on it and I pounded it with sticks to break its surface up a little. As well, I washed it after every yoga class to try to get rid of any film or whatever it is that is slick on the There are about a million reasons why I honestly don't know which one of these measures made a difference, but now it is the best mat ever it is not slick or slippery when doing yoga and it looks great as well because it is so durable that it While my other grippier mats that came out of the box that way now look horrible, the Manduka Pro is still looking like new and it's been a year and a half! The reason why Manduka can't break these mats in for us BEFORE selling them to us is that it is a very expensive mat, but I am now forgiving them because the mat is great.

It is the worst mat I have ever seen It would have been better to stick with your savings
3/5

This mat makes me hate my feet! The positive reviews inspired me to purchase it, and I'm scratching my head wondering where they're all coming I don't know how to use this mat, it's so slippery. It's been a while since I tried breaking it in with salt (twice) and used it daily but I've had to return to my old mat because this one feels too delicate and may break. Almost all of the poses cause me to slip and I have to see if there is nothing serious that can be done before I'm severely injured. I am truly annoyed and angry I wasted money on this mat.

I found it to be extremely slippery
3/5

I wasted my money on it. MAKE SURE YOU ARE THE BUYER! Despite our best efforts, the slipperiness will not dissipate! There is nothing I hate more than this mat! Even though I dislike it, I would rate it negatively five stars. I am slipping all over the place! Having purchased this mat in July 2018, it's almost a year old. Several times a week, I do hot yoga on it, even doing yoga on my feet. There is absolutely nothing I have done to reduce it. I placed it in the sun with and without salt for five days at a time. I have used coarse salt and fine salt. Nothing works. After misting my mat to help it stick, I used two different mat towels. Both slid on the mat, no matter how much I misted the mat. Not at all. I've got a pair of yoga gloves and socks with grippy surfaces There was a class in progress and the students were sliding over It was provided to me by my workout studio and I loved it over the past four years. that warned against slipping with a grain of salt. (I should have taken it with a million grains of salt because that's how much salt I've used trying to make this mat not slippy. Whatever the reason, I do not know if the material, style, or whatever was switched, discontinued, or something else, but this mat is HORRIBLE and exceedingly dangerous! Even downdogs are out of the question for me This is one of the most basic, repeated poses in yoga My daughter has a Gaiam mat from a discount store that works better than this Manduka Pro. I got this mat for $5 at a discount store for her. It is fascinating to me how others have been able to bring down such a giant Practice and salt treatments on their mat will help them "in". These aren't Pro mats, and they need to be different mats. It is possible that the reviewers are Manduka employees. Either they are lying or they are not. There was something wrong with me - This mat doesn't seem to be slippy after mouthing it for three weeks after receiving it, after salting it and practicing on it. Is it really worth paying this much for a safety mat that needs to be ripped apart to be used? In spite of how quickly I break in the mat, I will still be bashing it to everyone since it shouldn't take almost 9 months to build up the traction. BUY THIS MAT AT YOUR OWN RISK! Please do not waste your time or money There is no point in trying. Buying cheaper versions that you can return is a good idea. Manduka's "lifetime guarantee" only applies to defects on the hardware Efficiency is not the same as I was tricked when I bought my first iPad! Don't be tricked! It is a very common problem with these Manduka Pro mates to have their mats break in. So, if you search "manduka pro mat breaking in" you will read that this is a very common issue. You can at least sleep on it if you are not sure whether this mat will work for you. It would be a mistake to think your Manduka Pro would be an exception to all those negative reviews. The mat I am using is horrible. The color of the mat is literally the ONLY thing good about it. It would be better if it were free Whenever I'm using a mat, I'd rather use a brown mat that isn't slippery. In every case when someone compliments the color of my mat, I have the pretext of mentioning that it is slick and ineffective. The super slippery manduka Pro is always on my mind when I'm telling yogis about it. The risk of injury is high in case of a slip. This slick mat could ruin your yoga practice if it slips continuously. Don't put yourself at risk by practicing on this Practice should not be compromised. It does not make sense.

There is nothing slippery about this! Even after having this mat for 11 months and only using it once, I still find that it leaves something to be desired
3/5

I am still slipping all over the place during practice two times a week. I tried salt, I tried vinegar, but nothing seems to work. It is not safe for people to slip on the tiny slips The symptoms induce a low mood and keep me there I am attempting to relax into my zen place while feeling a high level of anxiety. Although I read many positive reviews, I was still frustrated with the quality of the mat despite its steep price. I kept thinking that it would improve over time, but it has not.
