I'm not sure what to make of the sizing chart or the advice to order a size up. Isn't a 34 waist the same as a 34 waist?
Yes.
How long do the shorts have to be? Do they start at the ankle and end at the calf?
I have not yet received them, but my husband has a couple of other pairs that are very similar to them and he loves them. They hit him right at his knee, despite his height of 6 feet.

I lost weight and needed new cargo shorts to fit me properly. I purchased a variety of styles, but they were all basically the same. I bought one of each brand for around $30, and these are better than most. We'll see how long the zipper lasts, as it appears to be a little less expensive than others. Very comfortable, simple pockets that can be straightened and buttoned after drying to keep them from bagging out. I could wear these shorts anywhere; they're stylish, functional, and affordable when you consider how long they'll last. They also come in a variety of colors that complement my color palette. br>With the pockets, I never lose or forget anything; a quick pat and I'm set!.

Way, way, way too small. I'd go up a size or two. It took over a month for me to get my hands on it as well. This is the last time I will order from this establishment.

Cargo shorts were ordered the first week of June and arrived on July 16, marking the end of Minnesota's summer. The shorts, too, are a little on the small side. It was a huge let down.
