There is no option to pause or time out the game. If you just want to stop the timer, then restart it and only record the "on" time (for example. I couldn't figure out how to accommodate that (time 5 seconds, pause 10 seconds, time 15 seconds for a total of 20 seconds timed). It's a great watch for getting splits or multiple times of runners in a race because it's so simple to use.

What I like best about this watch is that after pressing the split button, which I do at the start of each repeat in a set, I can press the release button, and the watch will display BOTH the Total Running Time and the running repeat time. For example, if I'm doing a set of 100's on 1:20, the watch will display BOTH the Total Running Time and the running repeat time. 20 At every one, I pressed the split button: 20. When I press the release button, it displays the running repeat time so that I can keep an eye on the splits and shout out times as they come in. It also displays the number of repeats so that I don't lose track of how many times I've done something. So having multiple groups and watches helps me stay organized and gives me more opportunities to provide feedback to the swimmers. I've had the two 740MXs for ten years and use them almost every day, if not twice. Recently, one or the other has gone blank on occasion, so I upgraded to the AX740. I'm not mentioning the blanking out as a problem; rather, it's a testament to how well they've held up under heavy use for so long. br>br>These are also great watches for swim meets, especially if you only have one watch for each swimmer. Hit the split, write it down (or let the memory save it for later), then release to see the total and split running times. br>br>If this watch has one flaw, it's that the reset is accomplished by holding down the start button for two seconds - When you're trying to run a group of people doing one-by-one 25s and you need to get ready for the next swimmer RIGHT NOW, that seems like an eternity. An older version of the game had a similar reset, but it was only about 1. The older AX740 takes three seconds, while the newer AX740 takes two. I think my older watches are starting to fail because I try to press the split button as hard as I can in the hopes of speeding up the reset. The same effect can be achieved with a light touch, which may result in the watch lasting longer.

The plastic at the point where the strap connects has broken. It continues to function. A pocket stopwatch is what I'm using right now.
After watching the YouTube video on how to use the watch, I was able to get finishing times for six swimmers in timed events during practice. Love it.
