Questions & Answers

What exactly is a cork-based product? What is the material used to make rubber grip tape? The product is good, but it has a strong odor. Is it made of plastic?

The cork rubber grip is made up of a combination of cork and rubber. It does not contain any plastics. I'm not sure what smell you're smelling; we've never encountered anything like it. I'd suggest brushing it off thoroughly first to ensure there are no small particles left over from the sanding process when the corners were rounded off. If the problem persists, wipe it down with a damp rag or lightly clean it with a cleaning solution. Although it is water resistant, I would not submerge it or allow moisture to get between the grip material and the deck. I hope this information is useful.

Is there any documentation or suggestions for how to use the board?

Sorry for the delay in responding to this; to get started, we have a video on our YouTube channel. But, beyond that, we encourage people to be inventive because the board can be used in a variety of ways!

How does this compare to a traditional circular balance board, and will it be more difficult?

Yes, the half-sphere shape makes balancing on it more difficult. It takes some getting used to, but if you put in the effort, you will notice an improvement in your abilities! As a result, your balance and agility will significantly improve!

When the board is level on the floor, how tall is it?

About 3. The ceiling is 25" above the ground.

A true and satisfying challenge, the best balance board on the market, and ideal for standing desks! Because I'm not much of an athlete, staying in shape usually entails going to the gym to work out
5/5

I find it tedious and uninteresting. Furthermore, I work at a desk in an office, and the majority of my hobbies entail sitting. So I'm in desperate need of a physical activity that will keep me engaged, with a huge bonus if it's something I can fit into my daily routine. br>br>In comes the Whirly Board: after a solid 3 hours of scouring Amazon for balance boards, I came to the conclusion that this one was the right choice, and after using mine at my standing desk for about a week, I can confidently say that it is by far the best choice for me. Day by day, I'm getting better at maintaining my balance and engaging my core. This will improve my posture and, in turn, help me address my lower back issues by retraining my abdominals and obliques to support me rather than my glutes doing all the work all the time. br>br>On Amazon, balance boards appear to fall into only two categories: 1. br>br> ) Wooden boards, round or rectangular, with coarse grip tape on top and some sort of semi-rigid surface. The underside has a rigid ball or cylinder, which is aimed squarely at the gym crowd and the elderly. They don't appear to be available in sizes larger than 16 inches in diameter or 16 inches wide. They appear to be very attractive due to their simplicity, but the lack of grip tape options and their small size make them difficult to recommend for an adult male who prefers his feet to be at least shoulder width apart or wider to accommodate a lower center of gravity. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br ) Longboards with softer grip tape on top and a separate cylinder on the underside (sometimes with a rail system underneath to help the cylinder stay in place, but some of the older products in the space have a fully separate cylinder with no rail system). The boards are longer than the previous types, similar to a skateboard. Within this category, you'll find items that are either designed for office workers as standing desk accessories or for outdoor enthusiasts as an activity similar to slacklining. br>br>The smaller round and rectangular varieties are less expensive, with prices ranging from $25 to $50. They all seem to be essentially the same thing and cost $60 (sometimes more). It's entirely possible that they're all made by the same company and sold under different names- That's how similar they all appear to be. And they appear to be fine, but their small size isn't ideal for activities that require two feet planted on the board. They appear to be in particularly good shape. They're great for lunges and single-abdominal workouts, but they won't get you very far otherwise, and while they all appear to be made of plywood, I can't say I trust the build quality without seeing them. br>br>The latter category of longboards is more expensive, ranging from $100 to $200. Again, they're heavily promoted to office workers, and I believe there's some price gouging here based on the assumption that businesses will pay the higher price. Many of these office-oriented bulletin boards are made up of a variety of materials. There appear to be a lot of plastics and they appear to be office-friendly-- Boring because there is a lot of black and gray. The boards that cater to the more adventurous types are similarly priced and tend to look the part- More colors and designs are available, but they may not match the majority of people's office decor. br>br>As previously stated, these boards typically have a free cylinder on which you must balance. The cylinder means you don't have to worry about your forward/backward balance as much, but the ones without a rail system are terrifying for those of us who don't already have great balance because the board can shoot out to either side if you lose your balance. I've tried these types of boards before and come dangerously close to injuring myself. They're fantastic for people who already have good to excellent balance, but they're too difficult for those of us who are just getting started. br>br>And it was all of those factors, as well as the overall design, price, and relative difficulty, that influenced my decision to purchase a Whirly Board. Every one of those categories is nailed by the Whirly Board. br>br>I work in an office all day and then play PC games or draw at my desk when I get home. My back doesn't like it when I sit all day and night. Lower back spasms are now a regular occurrence in my life. I bought a standing desk and a nice mat to go with it to counteract the effects of a sedentary lifestyle, and it made a huge difference in my life. It's greatly improved my quality of life. br>br>Now that I'm standing more frequently, I wanted something versatile, something that looks good, something that is challenging without being dangerous, something that will really test my balance and get me to engage my super-powerful muscles. muscle weakness in the core br>br>All of those boxes are checked by the Whirly Board. The skateboard's design is fairly simple. The solidity of the laminated plywood board can't be overstated. I weigh about 200 pounds, and the board does not flex or bow when I stand on it. I'm confident that if I take care of this board properly, it will last me a lifetime. On bare feet, the cork grip is extremely comfortable. The colored dome on the underside comes in a few different colors that you won't see very often, but it's great that they put so much thought into how the board looks from every angle. br>br>The rigid domes on the underside of the board's fixed design provide me with a solid challenge while also maintaining a level of predictability and user-friendliness. pleasantness Because there are fixed elements down there, I don't have to concentrate as much on balancing; it isn't a standalone activity. In fact, the Whirly Board encourages you to get comfortable quickly so you can begin doing more interesting things with it-- br>br>Overall, this thing is very well-designed. br>br>Spins, walks, squats, and so on. br>br> It was clearly well-thought out from top to bottom when it was designed. And it's good for more than just balancing! Check out their website and videos to learn more about how you can use the Whirly Board to help you wakeboard, snowboard, and more. At this price point, the Whirly Board does everything that its competitors do for about $70 less than some of the more expensive products out there, and with more versatility and higher build quality than the enticingly cheap products out there. This is the best balance board to get for a standing desk because it can be used for more than just balancing if you want it to. If you're like me and spend a lot of time at a desk (for fun or otherwise), and you want to mix it up with some physical exertion and training, this is a great choice. It also appears to be the most appealing of the drab alternatives available. There's no way you can go wrong with this one.

This is a magical object
5/5

I figured that as a former figure skater and occasional snowboarder, I wouldn't have any trouble with this board. Lol. wrong. My thighs and knees are burning after half an hour, I still need a chair to hold on to so I don't fall off, and I can only rotate 180 degrees without falling. This thing spins on a DIME, as far as I can tell. Right now, it's on a high-pile rug in my living room. In comparison, my plastic skate spinner (which I use to practice off-ice spins) will not spin on this rug, but this board will. I'd bust my butt on a hard surface if I tried it. It was challenging and interesting, and my legs confirmed that I had put in a good workout. It's currently being used by the cat - I'll make a video if he figures it out.

Viva la Fuego! It's the best balance board I've ever had
5/5

Solid material; I especially like the cork griptape; I'm 190 pounds, and it handles my weight well; it takes a little getting used to, but once you do, it's fantastic. I couldn't stand for more than 10 seconds with both feet the first week, but now 1. I can now balance on one foot for a full minute (albeit shakily) after 5 months. It also gives me a lot of angles to reposition my feet so that my legs don't get sore. I use it with a standing desk, and it's very easy to keep your balance while spinning from side to side or bouncing around if you're listening to music when your wrists are leaning on the edge. Maintains your energy levels by keeping you moving. I use it almost every day now that I'm at work, and I believe it aids in the management of my ADHD.

Something new and unusual
5/5

Because I had weak ankles and tight hips, which resulted in nasty injuries during trail races, I started to become interested in working on my balance this past year. I'm starting to believe that wobble boards should be in every home because they take up very little space and can strengthen your balance, muscles, and joints just by hopping on one a couple of times a day for short periods of time. Since I've been using it for a year, I haven't fallen once. But I'm getting ahead of myself. br>br>I've also always wanted to learn to skateboard, so here I am in my mid-twenties trying to do just that. In their forties, people are experimenting with new ideas. I had a $20 Yes4All wobble board that I enjoyed playing with, but I had mastered it and needed a new challenge. This appeared to be a good transition between the wobble and the Bongo board (which require very different types of balancing), and it appears to have a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to watching some YouTube videos to get some ideas for tricks and exercises to do with it. It appears to be a great time! I found it a little more difficult to balance on than my Yes4All for just balancing alone, but it's not impossible—especially if you've used a balance or wobble board before. I was able to stay up for about a minute after a few minutes of experimenting. It'll take some time for me to get back to where I was on my wobble board. br>br>Because my legs are much wider apart than on a regular wobble board, I found Whirly put more pressure on my hip and thigh muscles to balance on, which isn't a bad thing, but it may be difficult for someone who has never used a balance or skateboard to get started. I, on the other hand, completely disagree with the reviewer who described it as dangerous. Sure, it's dangerous (as are all balance boards), but if you take it slowly and/or use a chair or other solid piece of furniture to hold onto when you first start out, it's no more dangerous than a regular wobble board. The key is to not rush it, and to let it tip to the ground to get off if it becomes too much for you. This is a beautifully-designed board, and I can't wait to learn more with it! I'm glad I bought it for myself and the rest of my family because it's a well-made piece of equipment.
