Amanda, hello there. I received this as a Christmas present for my 3-year-old grandson, and I spread it out on a hardwood floor. On it, he was doing somersaults, running, and jumping. I never saw it skid, and I haven't inquired about it since they brought it home. I liked it, and he liked it even more.
Yes, these will be ideal, and I recommend purchasing two so you can place them side by side to provide ample space for children to play. One mat, in my opinion, is insufficiently wide.

I'm the father of an autistic adolescent, and it's not always easy. This is a very high-quality mat. I've seen and felt less expensive mats that don't provide the same level of protection as this one. This mat is well worth the money, from the packaging to the quality of the covering and mat thickness. The mat is divided into four sections, as shown in the photos. Each section measures 2 feet by 4 feet, totaling 8 feet. This is a mat that I strongly suggest. This product was not given to me in exchange for an opinion or a review.
This thing is extremely dense; I'm a 155-pound adult who does not sink into it. Consider a dense mat similar to a high-quality Manduka yoga mat, but 2" thicker and larger than a yoga mat. I couldn't make up my mind between the 1. and the 2. The two sizes are 5" and 2". My main concern with the 2" one was that it would be too soft and mushy to support me in balancing/standing type moves. Cost and weight (I'm not backpacking across India with it) were secondary to me. If you're deciding between the two, I'd recommend the 2" version, unless you're carrying a small child, in which case the weight of carrying it might be an issue because you don't need as much cushion. This thing, however, is a feather in comparison to my 8" landing mat. Some customers have complained that this mat isn't soft enough and that landing on it hurts their feet. Buy a crash/landing mat or something softer if you want something to crash into for flips and hard landings. This mat is ideal for practicing handstands and cartwheels, and it feels far more comfortable than landing (incorrectly) on the grass or the floor. I use this as a giant yoga mat in my backyard for floor warm-ups and other practice, and I also bring out the landing/crash mat if I think I'm going to fall head first into it.
My daughter outgrew the first one because she needed it for home gymnastics. The mat has seen a lot of use and is still in excellent condition. This new mat has even more impressed me with its quality, which is on par with the first, and the mats' durability. The larger purple and pink one has velcro to keep it from slipping. Her most recent accomplishment is to do a back hand spring on it, and I am completely at ease with it. If you're looking for something, look no further. Other Amazon-listed mats are not of the same high quality. They may be a few dollars less expensive, but as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for. The best part is that the mats are made right here in the United States of America!.
Superb craftsmanship! They are used on a daily basis by my daughter! Tumbling is a breeze with them.
The mat is of excellent quality. I bought the same mat for our four grandchildren who live next door two years ago. We've gotten a lot of satisfaction out of seeing how well it's held up to all of the use (and abuse) it's gotten. There are no tears, no stretching, and no buckling. The children range in age from five to ten years old. It's number thirteen, and everyone uses it. They've brought it over to my house several times to use with our inground trampoline, and the 13-year-old has asked for a second mat for Christmas because her gymnastic stunts are more involved and she does more flips and such in a row this year. Of course, we purchased from the same company because we were confident in their quality. The old mat still looks as good as new after two years of use.
I'm not a big reviewer because it seems like a waste of time when so many are clearly paid. br>br>However, I wanted to jump in and write one for this mat. br>br>As I previously stated, I purchased this in the second half of 2018. It can be a little difficult at first, according to some reviewers, but after two years of consistent use, it is now perfect. br>br>Ideas for it include yoga, pushups, and situps. It's ideal for tumbling, and it's also a big hit with my cats. br>br>I've been pleasantly surprised by its long-term durability, and as I've used it, it's evolved into the ideal cushioned mat I had hoped for. br>br>I keep it in front of my couch and only use it to prop up the table. Although it does not have the most elegant appearance, I am all about functionality, and this works perfectly for me. I just move the table around, and presto, I'm in shape. br>br>For the original price, this is a very cool mat, and I'm glad it's lasted this long.
The mat is 2" thick and of excellent quality. The foam is dense and supportive, and the vinyl is of excellent quality. There are no hooks and loops, but there is velcro on the sides, which allows you to quickly and easily lay more mats next to each other and secure them. Instead of hook and loop, I prefer velcro. The mats appear to be expensive, but they are well worth the money due to their high quality and durability.
They aren't the cheapest, but they aren't the most expensive either, so I'll overlook a few minor flaws for the money. A 1 can be found. When two mats are joined together, there is a 5" gap in the padding. If you're not careful while training, it may catch your foot. The foam is dense enough to allow for some sparring drills while also being soft enough to prevent break falls.
