Yes, it can; I have mine set up that way. You'll want to tilt the opening down to allow water to drain out rather than pool on the inside, as well as to allow the horn noise to travel forward.br>Hope this helps.

It is made of white plastic.
Any marine circuit should always have an inline fuse, in my opinion. However, it is not obligatory.

A horn that is extremely loud. I bought this to replace my old boat horn, and I'm very happy with how simple it was to install and how loud it sounds.
On my pontoon, I mounted this on the bottom side of a table, and I was concerned that it would be too loud. I only gave the noise level a four-star rating because it can be either too loud or too quiet. Even when mounted in the open, it is not painful to the ears, despite the fact that it is loud.
All of these small boat horns, in my opinion, are way too expensive for what they do. There's no rocket science here, and the materials aren't particularly valuable. Even so, this small horn does a good job and should be able to replace the original with just two screws and one hole for the wiring. It also looks a lot better without all the chrome and other junk on top, and it has a slightly lower profile of about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Unlike the originals, they do not stick up or out as far. It comes with a new gasket to seal the underplate area, has a low profile and a better appearance than most, and it's ready to use. The price is higher than it is worth, which is why it only gets four stars, but the quality and function are all five stars. Enjoy.
Housing is attractive and of higher quality than what came with the boat. It has a sturdy construction and clear instructions on how to mount it correctly. According to CG regulations, it specifies the size and class of boat for which it is suitable.
Mounting is a breeze. It has adequate sound, but I doubt it can be heard from a mile away, but it still meets the requirements. Recommend.
Less than three months after the boat was launched, this unit failed. It used to make a crisp, moderately loud horn sound, but after it broke down, it now makes a weak, rattling, raspy croak that can't reach far enough to be useful.
This horn was purchased for use on my bass boat. br>br> Although it has a pleasant tone that carries well over water, the outer shell is entirely made of plastic. I suppose that's good for water resistance, but the horn shell is likely to break if the boat bounces around in the water and someone bumps it hard. It is, however, a good buy for the money.
On a center console, I mounted this horn. Bring a small craft with you because the external mount's horn is loud and attracts the attention of other craft. In my opinion, this is fantastic!.
