For testing prototype platforms, you can use scrap plywood to create prototypes so you can ensure fit and function before investing in any new materials. It is enough for the DIY platform to support a bracket and a trolling motor provided it meets the specified specs. In the event that the motor has thrust and horsepower on the upper end, a backing plate should be installed on the interior of the hull (if access is available) to supply additional support. That backer should be made of Marine Board or King Starboard.

Selected User Reviews For Wilderness Systems Universal Transom Trolling Motor Mount for Kayaks

Without modification, it cannot be mounted to a PowerPole or motor
3/5

My kayak has a Power Pole mounting location on the back, so I purchased this for mounting my trolling motor on the transom. In addition to having the correct hole pattern, the bracket is too wide to fit into the recess and requires the fabrication of a spacer to lift it an inch off of the mounting position. Additionally, the motor mounting surface is too thin for tow motors to clamp to, and another spacer that is several times thicker was also required. In exchange for the price, I would have expected that it would at least fit the mounting location advertised and that it would be able to actually support a trolling motor. An inexpensive way to hire a metal worker would be to hire one locally.

The product is unfinished, but it works
4/5

Although it does not come finished. You will need a spacer because the metal is too thin and you will need a back plate, which it does not include. Additionally, the screws it comes with are too short, which just makes it a hassle. As a result, I am happy with the finished product, and it is probably even more valuable than.

Product worked well on my kayak and was a great fit
5/5

The precetion outlaw 11 is available for purchase. The motor is made for a trolling motor and it weighs 5 lbs. Therefore I bought it and found it to be very sturdy and well fitted. In order for the trolling motor to tighten down, I had to cut a small block of wood to make up for the space.

This product is a waste of money
3/5

I need to modify the vertical part of the plate to make it work because it is too thin to attach the motor to it. A 100 dollar product seems like it should work right out of the box if you ask me. It would have been cheaper to have a shop make one highly dissatisfied with their.

However, it is very expensive and there are no other options available
4/5

This is a well-built product, however, it is considered costly for what you receive. I also have a rear mount trolling motor, and the bolts that connect to the unit run right into their bolts. . This makes it less stable, but it still works.

If you want this to work, you must block

On most trolling motors, the clamp does not fit tightly enough to hold the motor in place. As a shim, you need to make a block of 5/4.
