About four or five years ago, I decided to try out some other genealogy software programs. The current version of Family Tree Maker is the first time I've used it since the release of the original. Easy to use Family Tree Maker is a good feature. Between a family overview and a detailed look at one individual, the viewer can toggle back and forth. Many custom fields have been used by me, and some of them are included There is one big advantage to using Family Tree Maker - you can create reports that are easily customized. I had a difficult time with RootsMagic on this one. There were booths for RootsMagic and Family Tree Maker at a recent genealogy fair. The report I needed (with certain fields on the descendant tree) was shown to both companies. I was told by RootsMagic's staff that they were unable to create this report.
