I am confused by changes in the interface
3/5

It has always been a pleasure for me to use Family Tree Maker. As I write this, I have more than 500 people organized and little bits of history added. An older version of the FTM application I had become accustomed to was updated with this version. After the changes to Broderbund's user interface were made, it took me some time to get used to them, as the interface itself had been kept As a result, I now have a lot of features and a very cluttered interface that sounds like something out of Microsoft. A few of the features that I had grown accustomed to, where I was able to produce dense circular layouts on a wall, were also lost. When Microsoft changes their Office 2007 and 2010 versions, we're used to whiplash and we were sad to see that happen to FTM as well. The age group utilizing FTM may be an older lot, and change is definitely harder for our grey haired brothers and sisters.

In FTM 2011 Deluxe you will find There were some bugs in the Vista release
3/5

Ancestry has been a great resource for me. Having been using ancestry. com for several months and building a substantial family tree, I needed a product designed to help me organize and publish my data. My decision to use Family Tree Maker, 2011 Deluxe edition came after a quick scan of the software products on the market and noting that the reviews were mixed. If I'm using Ancestry, I should think that way. If they are using branded publishing software to gather data, then, it's highly likely they would be able to collect troublesome data

The software is free and compatible with the web site.

I did not have any difficulty installing it on my desktop computer (running Vista Home Premium SP2) and examining the instructional screens. As I first looked at the user interface, I found it to be quite difficult to use A friendly person. Ancestry then provided me with a current copy of my family data file. Please visit www. com. the software had been used for another 15 minutes, it Neither a reason nor an explanation is We were not provided with any alternatives or fixes. The second time I restarted and started FTM, it crashed after just a few moments each time. This appears to be a fundamental Vista bug that should have been discovered and addressed before the release of the product. I returned FTM to Amazon as I had uninstalled it on my computer. It took Amazon less than a week to issue a refund. Continuing to extend my family research on Ancestry is a top priority for me. As a result, we will take a fresh look in a few months at all publishing software, which includes any user reviews of FTM 2012 after its release.

If you are researching family ancestry, I recommend Familty Tree Maker software
5/5

If you are researching family ancestry, I recommend Familty Tree Maker software. It is easy to transfer files from later versions since I have purchased them. It is possible for Ancestry to import the information. Please visit www. com. The reason why I purchased a later version is that the manufacturers are making improvements and its price.

Creating a family tree has never been easier
3/5

A lot of the things that I have tried to do with Family Tree Maker have been frustrating. I had an old version that worked well, but we have been unable to import it into the new one An older version of the software. The Ancestry staff told me that the program must be corrupt and they could not help. I spoke with them for 30 minutes. Normally, I check all this before the due date, so it was long past the due date by the time I checked everything.

The new version is much better than the original
3/5

This software was used by me a very early version (the Broderbund release) and I enjoyed building family trees with it. Com) were not well developed, and I found the interface a bit Since my early genealogy software experiences ten years ago, many things have changed, and I am glad to see how much progress has been made. It appears that the new software is a bit complex at first glance, which I think is I find using com) particularly enjoyable. There is a range of options. You can keep things simple, or you can delve (and substantiate) as deeply as you like.

I bought the Deluxe version, which I consider a steal. The price is about $50 for a very good product There is a specially designed program (Family Tree Maker), a DVD full of reference books, and a 3-volume set of reference books A subscription to Ancestry costs $9. 95 per month. Please visit www. com. As an example, I am currently running the software on a machine running Windows XP 64-bit A little. Nothing to worry about. I'd like to share the following update While I still like the software, I have a few complaints based on my first few weeks of use. For users planning to use both Family Tree Maker and Ancestry, the first step is to buy each program separately. A record can't be moved back and forth between the website and its local software because it was poorly conceived and designed. You may want to add a button to the Person page that lets you sync the record between As a second concern, I have encountered a lack of product support. I have sent a few questions to the support staff, but they have not responded. The issue of using the two applications together is also not well explained in either of the software packages described above or on Ancestry. Please visit www. com. I have downgraded my recommendation to 3 stars (from 5 stars). I think that the services provided by com should be made Over time they would be able to make more money). This is the latest In a perfect world, I would downgrade to two and a half There is a great deal of utility to the software, and I like how the interface is laid out The design. There are some nice tools in the database, and the database seems solid. Despite this, I continue to complain. It may have been bad to mediocre, but it's hard to tell from the "we're here to help" message on the website. After two or three weeks, I finally got a response to my email. Using Family Tree Maker with Ancestry is a question that was emailed to me. It was pretty much what I expected when I contacted com. In essence, the two programs (the desktop software and the website) do not correspond. I understand that users of the software will require the on-line help since they will need to update the software It's not difficult to explore the available data via Web, but unless you stay on board for a lifetime (which is very expensive), you will never have access to it locally (on your computer). Those may be the plans, which seems like a bad marketing plan to me. If the company had generated desktop software that seamlessly accessed the internet, synced the local data with the web data, and offered a web interface, I believe they would sell more of both products Subscribing to a line for a reasonable price would be ideal.

It is an industry standard and works well for most people
3/5

However, the software has to be updated regularly, which means buying a new version nearly It keeps our extensive genealogical database well organized and we use it to manage a large number of genealogy records. The first version of FTM I used was version 1. My first version of FTM was version Even though the annual improvements often don't seem worth it, this version does not work with Windows 7 on a 64 bit machine. If I update my computer to Windows 8, I will have to update once again. The only complaint I have about this software is how irritating I find it to be. It is necessary to upgrade to the new version in order to open files stored in the new version We waste money by having to duplicate each software version purchase because we use FTM at home on our desktop, but use a laptop when we are traveling for research. What a waste of time.
