Selected User Reviews For Clifford the Big Red Dog: Phonics [OLD VERSION]
This game was bought for a four-year-old girl who is now eight months old. She had only rudimentary computer skills and had done some phonics work in Pre-K. This was exactly the type of game she was looking for. Some of the tasks were simple, giving her a sense of accomplishment, but the difficulty level gradually increased without her noticing, and they mixed in some fun non-academic activities. As a reward (decorating the float), students are encouraged to participate in learning activities. As a result, her reading and computer mousing skills have both improved significantly in the last month. I haven't yet found a good typing game for a four-year-old, so that will be my next project.
My daughter, who turned three in October, is a huge fan of this game. It's both educational and entertaining, and she was able to navigate through the carnival games right away, demonstrating how user-friendly it is. While she has long known all of her capital letters and the sounds they make, she is now learning to recognize lower case letters and spell 3 and 4 letter words as a result of playing this game. She's only had it for a few days, but I'm already seeing how much she's learning from it. This one comes highly recommended because of its educational value.
My four- year- We bought this at the school's book fair because our older daughter didn't want to use the computer at preschool. Now, however, she is VERY interested in computers. She, too, has logged a lot of time into this game. Without much assistance from me, she was able to master her surroundings quickly. It's not only a fun game, but it also teaches you how to recognize words and pictures. I would strongly advise other parents to use this software. In fact, I'm going to add a few more Clifford books to her wish list for Christmas!.
This program is a little slow, but it's a good deal for my 4-year-old grandson. br>It doesn't hold the same fascination as 'Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat' or 'Arthur's Computer Adventures,' but if you already own those CDs, this one is well worth the money.
I bought this for my very bright 2 1/2 year old and he learned how to play the games, recognize the words, place the tickets in the machine to win a prize (using the mouse), and so on in minutes. On the computer, I enjoy watching him. He is more adept at using the keyboard and mouse than some adults I know.
This game is fantastic because it teaches children phonics, letter recognition, matching, and number recognition while they are having fun. They complete tasks and are rewarded with enjoyable prizes that increase their self-esteem. It teaches children how to use a mouse and how to navigate on a computer.
She also enjoyed the creative aspect as well as the rewards of attending the parade at the end.
