Questions & Answers
These are nothing more than a fabric ball made of synthetic fibers. This isn't even close to being organic matter.
These aren't made of charcoal; they're made of moss.
For the past 20 years, I've had them in my turtle tanks. I've never had a problem with it.
For our turtle, I replace it every two weeks.

br>br>As a product, it's fine, but I'm going to dock some points. My issue isn't that it's not a real plant or moss, but that prior to purchasing, I checked the description to see if it was real and found nothing that indicated it wasn't. Yes, reviews and answers state as much, but we shouldn't have to look that far.
I mean. It's not a moss ball at all, despite the fact that it's called one. It's a synthetic fabric ball that, like any other man-made product, collects mildew and mould when submerged. I would recommend a moss-based product or a cleaning snail.
I must admit that I was skeptical that this moss ball would actually help with our stinky tank problem, but it did. I can now go at least a month (or more) between tank cleanings, whereas before we started using the moss balls, I had to change/clean the turtle tank every 5 days. Due to the repulsive turtle odor, I stayed for ten days. I'll keep buying the Exo Terra Moss balls for our turtle tank, and I'd recommend them to anyone who has a stench problem.
It isn't a moss ball, as has been stated by others. It's a ball made of polyester fibers that contains who knows what. Within days, the color changed to brown. There are a lot of loose fibers in the aquarium and the filter. There was no improvement in the water quality or reduction in algie. It smells like snake oil, so I'm guessing it's that.
I trust Hagen with my life because the company produces excellent products, such as the Fluval Aquariums. br>br>Unfortunately, this moss ball does not meet my expectations. I didn't pay attention, and nowhere in the product description does it say that it's not a live moss ball. It's a synthetic ball that's been filled with (Charcoal?). )br>br>Anyway, it's not natural, and it doesn't even try to look natural, and I'm not pleased with the end result.
Initially, it appears to be a cool item, but it is made of the same plastic green fur that you'd find on a cheap stuffed animal. It purports to improve water clarity and reduce odors, according to the manufacturer. br>CAUTION: THIS PAGE MAY CONTAIN OFFENSIVE MATERIAL. If your animals consume vegetation, be aware that they may consume plastic, which is not digestible (a bad thing).
It is home to "Chaos," my large African aquatic turtle. The Exo Terra Moss Ball is made of a very soft synthetic material that is wrapped around a plastic ball that is likely filled with charcoal. It performs admirably. The tank does not emit a foul odor, and it extends the life of my large filter before it needs to be replaced. For $5. I am delighted at 00.
I bought it for my aquarium of aquatic turtles. I put four in after cleaning it a few days ago, and everything is working fine so far. There is no odor in the water, which appears to be clear. If it keeps working, I'll buy it again.
