These are what I bought for my hermit crabs. They had holes in them that were not the result of shipping. These shells are also coated in some sort of clear coat, which is toxic and prevents my crabs from using them because the holes prevent them from holding water.

  I recently acquired (more accurately, rescued) a hermit crab from a fair, and he arrived with a hideous painted shell that was far too small for him. So I boiled these right away and put them in there for him (after allowing them to cool). I could tell he was much more comfortable after he switched shells so quickly. They have large openings, and mine were free of chipping and holes. (All I want to do is raise awareness about hermit crab suppliers. ) Thousands of hermit crabs are kept in large rooms with no food or water, no new shells, and insufficient humidity or heat by the suppliers. They toss and sweep them around as if they were garbage. They also break open their shells (causing serious injury) and stuff them into pretty painted ones (which are toxic) so that people who don't know any better think, "Wow! They are supplied to pet smart, petco, beach stores, fairs, and many other places because they are "so pretty," rather than realizing that it is abusive. The majority of the time, those who sell them are unaware of how to properly care for them. So please, if you get a hermit crab, treat it well, giving it plenty of space, substrate, food, and so on. It's very likely that your hermit crab has a bad history.

The pictures do not always reflect the truth. They are extremely small. The photos made it appear that the listed size was the opening caliber rather than the full shell measurement. A refund was requested after the item was returned.

For quality, there are no stars. I placed an order for 5 XL Green turbo shells. The shell was the right size and shape, but it was in terrible shape when it arrived at my house. I would understand if I had purchased an "Imperfect" bundle because one of the shells I received is so badly damaged that it would not even be found in an imperfect bundle. Two others have chips, and three have calcium buildup so bad that it's difficult to tell what color they are. This isn't the image I had in my head. There was no mention that these shells could be damaged or chipped.

The shells were lovely, but one was chipped. The main issue, however, was that the shells were smaller than the description indicated. We bought these for my son's hermit crabs, and the opening had to be between 1 and 1 1/4 inches wide, as specified in the description. The biggest one had a 3/4-inch opening. They were a birthday present, and he was overjoyed to receive new shells, but he complained that they were far too small. It's lovely and natural, but it's a little too small!.

These and the ones below them, both in jade green, were my purchases. The smaller ones were perfect and looked exactly like the pictures on the Amazon website, but the larger ones were lacking in color (in my photo, the middle shell is the smaller sized shell, while the other two are the product reviewed). Aside from that, nice shells: There were no broken or sharp edges, and the size was correct.

They looked nice when I got them, and they were all different sizes, but they seemed a little small and heavy! As a result, I was unsure whether or not my hermie would enjoy them. br>br>So, I boiled two of the largest shells, placed them in the tank, and Hermie switched to the new shell that same evening! br>br>I believe he prefers the thicker, heavier shell over his previous one. It's a lot more durable and protects you better. The previous one was from a pet store, and it was probably a snail shell, as it was quite thin.

However, the shells are very nice. I chose the brown "Tapestry Turbo" in size 2 from the options listed. 5 - On three occasions, I ordered the 3 inch size, hoping that the first two orders had been mislabeled. I've gotten shells that are only 2 inches in diameter all three times. The attached photo of an empty green shell, which I bought from the same seller a few months ago, shows what a 2. It looks like a 5 inch shell, and the photo of the brown ones is what I keep getting and returning. I'm looking for a 2. that's exactly what it says on the tin. 5 - For the Beast Hermie in photo 3, a 3 inch shell is required. Aside from the sizing issue, these shells are stunning and of excellent quality. If the sizing problem is resolved, these brown "Tapestry Turbo" shells will be upgraded to a five-star product.
