I used it as a hiding place for my sulcata tortoise, and the dome lights were placed on top of the wood without touching it. Between the lights and the hideaway, there is about 5 inches of clearance, and the wood has not been harmed.
It measures 20 inch X 11 inch when laid completely flat. It has the ability to be arched to create a tunnel with a maximum height of 8 inches. It can be adjusted to your preferences.
"Why isn't the turtle in a heated, filtered tank rather than a jar?" is a better question.
Apple wood is the best choice. It appears to be made of the same wood that my pet toys are made of.

It's something she really enjoys. Remove the fake greenery before putting it in. Those who try to eat it are in danger.
Mold is all over the place!.
I bought this hide for a box turtle because I'd purchased several different hides over the years but they weren't tall enough to accommodate her domed shell - ignore the pink line in the photo; it's from the lighting above the enclosure. . . I absolutely love this hide; I've purchased several different hides over the years but they weren't tall enough to accommodate her domed shell - ignore the pink line in the photo; it's from the lighting above the enclosure. . . This one is EXACTLY what I was looking for! It can be positioned higher with a narrow base or lower with a wide base, making it ideal for use in a custom enclosure or decorated vivarium.
I like it; it's a little large, but it'll suffice.
This is something I'm glad I got. It's well worth the money, and I like that it's movable, so I can make it shorter/squattier now that my tortoises are young, but I can make it taller as they grow. It is well-made. I'm not going to use the leaves because I'm afraid the babies will eat them, but it's nice to have them on hand.
It is large and sturdy and was purchased for a Greek Tortoise. She likes how bendable it is.
However, keeping the vines that they include in place is extremely difficult.
This is something we bought for our box turtle, and he adores it. Please keep in mind that the XL is a large size. We could have easily gone down a size, and I like that we have the ability to change the shape. It's tough and should last a long time. I would strongly suggest it.
