It has been used by me for over 30 years and all the dogs I have owned love it as well. I opened this package and my dog was hesitant to chew on it at first (he likes to do it first). We did however brush his teeth. The long and short of it is The last time he did this was last night. Apparently, he was also thinking it didn't smell the same as it used to. Although I am not sure whether the formula has changed or not, I will destroy this shipment ($$$ out the window) and try another brand, at least ordering one tube before placing an order for.
I have the prettiest teeth in the world on my toy poodle. Brushing almost every day is part of our daily routine. In addition, after four years, we decided to have her teeth professionally cleaned since we've read and heard that small dogs typically have big problems with their teeth. I was using chicken flavored CET enzymatic tartar control toothpaste until the cap turned black as a reaction between the metal tube and the paste. After reading the reviews I decided to try the Sentry Petrodex brand. It arrived today and I like it even more so. There are a lot more tubes and it is plastic instead of the other brand! I gave it to my two dachshunds and they loved the flavor of it as much as I do. Their teeth are brushing they are accustomed to, but they don't enjoy the experience. I brushed their teeth tonight and they each tried chewing on their toothbrush as I was finishing. By doing this, I was able to brush some harder to reach areas that I had previously just gone over skim-wise. The teeth of one of the dogs were cleaned in June, while the other was taken care of For my girl, whose teeth were done a year ago, I would say they are pretty clean with some buildup on the usual spots. There are 2 spots on my boy's mouth that seem to have gotten worse despite brushing with the other paste frequently. The real test will come later if this paste is able to reverse the build-up.
The shelter Yorkie I have has bad teeth and he's 13 years old. As part of the emergency surgery, the rescue service recommended an enzymatic toothpaste, but of a different brand. This toothpaste is twice as large and much more affordable than the original brand. I even think my dog likes the taste better than I do. That method has led to the loss of several tubes.
