A leash similar to this one we bought was sewn with leather connectors, but had plastic connectors instead, and was covered in a foam type of padding. We taped the foam handle after my dog chewed the plastic connectors to the point they wouldn't snap back together. The plastic connectors were chewed to the point they would not snap back together again. An old leash was in such poor shape that my friend bought a new flat one as a replacement. The state of our leash had obviously been noticed by others as well. It was a bit of a turnoff for me because the leash was flat. Our dogs are able to chew them through easily so we had done away with His style of chewing does not allow him to penetrate the rope. Then after he nearly bit through it, we did some more research and found this. Neither the rope nor the sewn leather connectors can be chewed through by my dog. It does not come with a handle made of foam. I don't see the point of doing it. Also, this leash appears to be a bit more flexible than the last. My initial expectation of the leash compared to its price may have been too high. I was impressed with how well made it looked when it arrived. Even the ends were covered with leather. The color faded quickly from the sun after a few months of daily use, but that didn't bother me at all. I stopped using it as the stitching on the leather holding the joint in the rope under the hand loop fell apart and the rope started fraying where the loop was sewn to the main line. There were only a couple strands left holding the rope together when I stopped.
