The key for us was that when extended, it was small enough at the base to easily fit between the front seats of our car so he would have water at hand when driving long distances. It must also be wide enough for him to easily access the cup, and this cup fits the bill. It is light enough for us to ride it on his retractable lead so that we are always able to provide him with a water cup.
When I use my larger bowl, this makes a nice extra cup for my purse or glove department, but is also useful when I use my smaller bowl. As I walk with the bottle, it does bounce on my leg a bit, but not enough for me to notice. This is a really nice tool for using while walking. Because the water bottle has been taken out of the loop, I am changing my rating to three stars on 06/15/15. It seems that I have used it enough that the hole has stretched and that it bounces enough that the water bottle is able to slip out. The fluid still leaks out even when I take just half a bottle. In the beginning, this sounded really nice, but it won't work for me now. Although I do use a fanny pack when walking my dog, so it's mostly attached to that. Maybe if it was attached to something that doesn't bounce as much, such as a knapsack, it would work fine.

Since I didn't have anything to take with me for my dog's adventures, I looked on Amazon and found water bottles that had bowls built in so your dog could drink from them at the same time. Due to my dog's small size, we do not walk very far on our walks, so we did not need to bring two water bottles, but I still wanted her to have access to water when it is hot. The durability of this product is apparent from that. As it is lighter than most silicone bowls, I can take it with me on the trail. It has a different texture than your average silicone bowl. There is no doubt that this is a great bowl and I would recommend it without hesitation. By the way, I have a big 85 lb mutt, and it's the perfect travel bowl, although it's not quite big enough for an everyday.
There has never been a better invention. The product I found made life so much easier for me, I cannot remember how I discovered it. When we took our three dogs out before purchasing this bowl, we either had to pour them a bowl that we had to carry around or let them drink out of our drinks that were discarded afterward. It's wonderful to have a pop up bowl like this. Whenever I take my dog with me on a road trip, I can pour my water into the bowl and she can drink from It fits in the cup holder of my car since I can pop it open halfway to allow my dog to drink from it when she rides in the front. It is great if you bring your dogs on strolls, car rides, boat rides, or wherever you need to replenish their water supply. Since we live by a lake, we can also take our dogs on boat rides with us, and they can now drink water when they get hot.
