We bought this feeder to replace an older one that wasn't working properly because the food wasn't being dispensed completely. We were never completely satisfied with the design of the previous one, which could only dispense up to three meals per day. br>br>This feeder is far superior. If your cat tips the feeder over, the food will not spill out because of the locking feature on the top. br>br>Because the feeding bowl is securely fastened to the feeder, it would take a particularly strong or intelligent cat to remove it. br>br>I particularly like the colored light bar, which allows me to quickly assess the status of the feeder. You don't have to be concerned if the sky is completely blue. br>br>Although the portion size is set, you have complete control over the number of portions (up to 50) you eat per day and how they are distributed among the six possible feeding times. You'll have a lot of options now. We have two cats, and this one will go to our older cat, who is food obsessed. He needs a feeder to keep his food intake under control, or he'll eat himself sick. I was having some trouble converting ml to cups, so I set up 6 feedings a minute apart and measured the total output to get the right number of portions. We feed him 3/4 cup per day, which is equal to 10 portions in this feeder. After I figured out how many portions there would be, I set up the feeding times so that the 10 portions would be spread out over the six feeding times available. br>br>The process of setting the number of portions and feeders is a little tricky at first, but once you get used to the control panel and the buttons, it's very simple. br>br>I like that this feeder comes with a power supply as well as a built-in battery backup. br>br>I've attached a photo of how we cat-sit. Our feeder had been proofed, so it was time to put it to use. It's not a pretty solution, but it gets the job done, and since it's in our basement, we don't mind. Our cat knows how to get to the food, so we had to go to great lengths to secure the old feeder. Because of the shape of this feeder, it was much easier to keep him from stealing the food, and he hasn't even tried to tip it yet. br>br>This is a product that I strongly recommend.

For the design, price, and basic functionality, I gave it two stars. Advantages: br>br>
1. You can record an audio call for your pet to come eat (I'm not sure I'll use this feature because my dog runs to the machine when he hears the food drop)br>2. It takes up less space than some of the other feeders. It also appears to be quite appealing. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product.
1. There is no option to "slow feed" the food over a set period of time. br>2. There are only 6 feeding times that you can program. Because I didn't have a slow feed option, I used this as a "workaround. " Three smaller drops in the morning and three in the evening are recommended.
3. There is no option to "pause"- So, if I go away with my dog for the weekend, I'll have to unplug it and remove the batteries, or somehow reset everything I've programmed in. When I plug it back in, I'm guessing I'll have to start over from the beginning. This isn't a good situation to be in.
4. There is no way to clean it because it isn't detachable. As much as I'd like to believe that the area around the machinery will remain clean, I know that's not going to happen. Once a year, I dismantled and cleaned my pet safe.
5. Always- br>6 on blue light manufacturer's name bowl that is unique: If the bowl breaks or you want to use your own, this machine will most likely not work.
