No, I do not believe that is true. I believe the diameters do not match, but it is most certainly not that type of vacuum hose. This vacuum is made to be used by hand. It's pro- A fantastic hose in every way. It's what I use for my pool maintenance company.
It's more than capable... as long as the end pieces are compatible with the cleaner's connections.
Male and female are represented on both ends of the spectrum. In the skimmer, one is inserted. INTO the other end, you insert the sweeper head attachment.

I purchased this with the intention of using it to vacuum my pool in the spring before opening and in the fall before closing. I thought my pool was 23 x 50, but it's actually over 60' long because it's a lazy L, so it doesn't quite reach the corners, so I'll be purchasing an extender soon. This, on the other hand, is a serious piece of equipment. It's not the kind of cheap junk you'd find at a discount W store or even some pool establishments. This stuff appears to be extremely durable and dependable. Just make sure to take a measurement of your swimming pool first! lol.
I purchased a home-made (as close to commercial as I could find) pool vacuum hose, and after using it for a full season, I am very pleased with my purchase. It's held up admirably (I keep it in my garage to keep it out of direct sunlight). I'm looking forward to using this hose for many more seasons.
