Questions & Answers

For fungus gnats, I only require a small amount of product. Is it possible to make a batch with just one dunk and keep it in the fridge to spray on my garden's surface as needed?

Hello, I just saw your question and have figured out how to make these work for my plants. I fill gallon milk jugs with 1/4 teaspoon of mosquito dunk. You'd only need a small piece for a small sprayer, but simply spraying your plants or the topsoil won't kill the larvae. To successfully eradicate the gnats, you'll need to water each plant with the treated water. I've discovered that the small piece I use lasts for a month, and all I have to do is write the date on a piece of masking tape and attach it to the jug. I am not 100% sure, but because these are made of live bacteria, I don not cap the jugs. I don not want to kill those. I hope this information is useful!

Is it safe for plants to use?

If you don't eat the plants, that is. This product is toxic and can kill mammals, birds, and fish, according to the manufacturer's safety sheet, which can be found online. Environmental impact assessments have also not been completed.

These are great for buckets or a kid's water table. Is it necessary to replace any standing water on a regular basis? If that's the case, how frequently do you do it? Is it necessary to replace the dunks, as well?

I'm not certain. I don't believe mosquitoes are attracted to these dunks, so I wouldn't put buckets of water out to attract them to the water. I believe they are intended for use in areas with standing water, such as ponds, bird feeders, and so on, but I use them in my outdoor potted plants where the soil remains moist and mosquitoes love to lay their eggs.

Is it necessary to break up the dunks or simply place them in the standing water in their entirety?

According to the directions, 1/4 of a dunk should be placed in 1 cup of water. 1/2 in 5-square-foot of water et cetera

If you have a fungus gnat infestation indoors, this product is well worth the money
5/5

Mosquito dunks are the best thing I've ever bought on Amazon! They function in the same way that any MIRACLE PRODUCT should. I had a serious fungus gnat problem as a result of having carnivorous plants and vanilla orchids in my garden (you'd think the carnivorous plants would have kept the problem at bay). But no!! They weren't eating them for some reason, which is why I paid $50 for them in the first place). Both types of plants require constant moisture. They not only started the fungus gnats, but they spread them to all of my other plants as well. So I'd been dealing with it for a while. ugh. gross. In each of my gallon jugs of water, I put about a quarter of a dunk. br>***Just a quick note. I did not replace the caps on the water jugs. Maybe I'm wrong, but I figured that because the dunks are living organisms, they'd need oxygen to survive, so I left a few inches of empty space at the top of the jugs to allow them to come to life and spread out. **
I didn't want to jeopardize my entire project by eliminating the organisms. Almost all of the pests had been eliminated within 14 days. Adult gnats are unaffected by this product and can live for up to 30 days. br>However, I discovered that killing all of the larva in my damp plants was more difficult, and the gnats returned. I didn't realize I needed to put some of the dunks in the water those plants were sitting in, not just in their gallon of water (just a small piece of a dunk for each, leftover from hacking the original ones). Because the gnats had returned to the other plants, I purchased mosquito bits and applied them according to the package directions. This resolved the issue once more, and I've been gnat-free since then. Since that time, I've been completely free. It's been more than three months since we last saw each other. br>I would strongly advise anyone suffering from an indoor gnat infestation to try these dunks. I had tried a few other remedies before coming across this one. I was able to achieve this by combining commercial products with homemade concoctions that I discovered through internet research. I discovered that even thoroughly drying all of my plants was ineffective. I believe that is merely a precautionary measure, and that once the pests have taken hold, you are doomed. I'm about to purchase my third box of dunks. I have about thirty plants, each in an 8 to 12 inch pot, and I've only used six dunks so far. That's a good price for the work they've done for me. That is, in my opinion, a good investment.

It did not work
3/5

I installed a half-dunk in my outdoor fountain, which has a four-foot-diameter pool of standing water (which is still unconnected). It's overrun with larvae after two weeks. I went to Home Depot and bought a jar of Mosquito Bits (same company, same product, just packaged in bits instead of large donuts) and tossed some in. The next day, all of the larvae have died. So either this product was a forgery or it was past its expiration date. According to the company's website, there is no expiration date and that it is still good after eight years, but it must lose potency over time; in any case, I'll stick to Home Depot from now on. It's far too easy to pull off a ruse like this. I try to stay away from Amazon when purchasing them. It's my fault that I was taken in once more.

So far, this has proven to be the most effective method for getting rid of
5/5

So far, this is the most effective method I've discovered for getting rid of pesky flies, gnats, and other unwanted visitors from your houseplants. I always have half a dunk in my watering can. I replace it with a new one when it dissolves (usually after a few months). On houseplants, it works wonders. I tried a lot of other things first, but nothing came close to what I got with this.

Here's how to get the most bang for your buck with these dunks! This past summer, I used it in my birdbath
5/5

I went to the bird bath when it arrived in the mail and discovered small mosquito larva inside. It's simple to extend the life of this product by using a small birdbath! Because my bird bath isn't that big, I broke one of the dunks in half and inserted it. The following day, all of the mosquitos had died. This is incredible. I got the same results if I cut it into quarters, and I'm sure I could go even smaller. They last for a long time, three to five weeks, in my opinion. And it still works even if you can't see the dunk floating. When it was completely gone on top, I always put another one in. My dog and deer drink from that fountain frequently and without incident. With the arrival of autumn, I still have enough food to last me through the rest of the summer. At the end of the summer, I noticed that the mosquitoes around the house had virtually disappeared since I began using this. This is in stark contrast to previous years, when it was difficult to go outside without being bitten! (I also changed the water in the bird bath on a weekly basis) This summer, I only changed the water when it became dirty, as opposed to last summer, when it had baby mosquitoes in it every week! This stuff will keep me coming back for more! I hope this information is useful! ray333ray2001@yahoo. com ray333ray2001@yahoo. com ray333ray2001 com.

They work perfectly, and I've been using them for over 25 years
5/5

I've been using these for years in my fish pond's gravel filter, which circulates its mosquito voodoo throughout the pond, as well as in the large filter, where I can easily see when it's faded down to nothing and it's time to replace it. In the filter, I reasoned that it would keep the fish from nibbling on it like they would if I simply dropped it in the pond. There are no mosquitoes here, except for a few that swarm over from my neighbor's flooded gutters, which have never been cleaned and are overgrown with plant life. When the trees growing out of his gutters become too heavy, I expect them to fall off the house one of these days. I've considered tossing a few of these items into his gutters, but I'm afraid that's when they'd come crashing down.
