Do you know if this feeder has been used by woodpeckers? I appreciate your kind words! What about doves? Do they use it? There is nothing I want more than I appreciate your kind words! ?

A native of Northeast Pennsylvania, I currently work as a software engineer. Hairy Woodpeckers, red headed woodpeckers, grosbeaks, and finches are among the birds we attract to the feeder. To make cardinal mix, I used a virtual mixer. Apparently, I have to fill the feeders every day.

It may seem like there are four perches, but there are probably not four birds at the same time. A few seconds ago, three birds appeared. By either scaring each other away or causing distractions, they keep each other apart. The feeder is usually stocked with 1 or 2 birds.

It has been over 6 months since we have had this feeder
4/5

Before posting this review, I wanted to make sure it was almost perfect. Despite the fact that this may be a five star feeder, the reason I deducted a star is because of The Good This feeder attracts all kinds of birds to the yard despite the perches being very small. After a few weeks, birds learned how to use it and all varieties of birds began to use the feeder. A few of the notable birds we see are cardinals, blue jays, mockingbirds, sparrows, chickadees, and doves. (and woodpeckers, which are enjoying this feeder as well. The squirrels have been able to access the food a few times, but most give up after trying too many times. It is quite comical to watch them try to get to the food. This can be troublesome if your bird seed is chunky, as the dispensing ports are quite small, leading to food getting stuck and clogging the other food from falling through them. There are chunks of soil here and there that require me to go out frequently to loosen them. I would suggest feeding a fruit and nut blend since this feeder is not a great choice. the feeder is dishwasher safe, but I was able to melt the inner seed tube when I put it in the top rack of the dishwasher. The paint on the outer metal tube is also fading. It can't really be put in the dishwasher. A replacement was mailed to me at no charge, but beware of scammers. Finally, the metal perches appear to shift when heavy birds sit on it and remain in an angled position. This is a difficult task to describe in writing, but I am having to go out and take the perches apart There is definitely an error in the design. In general, we are happy with this feeder and would recommend it to others. The product could easily be a five star product with a few minor design tweaks.

A solution that defeats the squirrels at last
5/5

Then, add this A dozen squirrels used to come to my feeder almost daily to raid the food. They have formed a line across the street and are even coming from across the street at the same time. The feeder used to be populated only with one or two birds and I was fine providing bird seed for them. Now, there are so many birds my feeder is monopolized by them and the birds don't have any chance to feed. In addition to coating the seed with capsaicin, I also tried a variety of ways to discourage squirrels from eating it. Even if it slowed them down, they barely noticed. My slingshot was full of dried peas, so I started shooting them with it. There were even a few times when I hit them. They would just run to the back of the yard as soon as I opened the door, but unless I chased them, I just left them there until I went back in the house. As soon as I returned to the house, they were I was referred to the Brome Squirrel Buster Pro by a friend. Despite looking good, it ended up costing quite a bit more than we wanted to spend on yet another squirrel proof We decided to give the Squirrel Buster Standard a try as a way to get a feel for the design without spending a lot A number of high quality materials appear to have gone into making the Squirrel Buster Standard. I am very satisfied with the fit and finish. The seed should be put inside after taking it apart, and the reassembly is very simple. This feeder comes with a rigid metal hanger that runs for almost the entire length of the body. It is not obvious from all the pictures but is inherent to the design. This is something to be kept in mind when deciding on the best As far as I can tell, it is working Shepherd's hooks are used to hang the feeder. As a result, I had to put the hook in the ground at an angle so the feeder would safely be far enough away from the shaft to prevent squirrels from getting over it, but it seems reasonably In an attempt to reach the seed, the squirrels attacked the tree from below, above, and from the side. They couldn't reach it from the side, and attacks from below or above shut the seed ports, so they couldn't reach I have only one little quibble, and that's the feeder is relatively A 12 oz. container worked well for me. I used just two seeds per glass and used two glasses to fill So the volume is the same as what they say, 3/4 quart, or 24 ounces. One ounce. In terms of squirrels, the smaller size is a plus since it means they have less to hold on to, but it means you have to refill My feeder feeds me a lot of information about this topic. There were still only a dozen squirrels feasting on it every two weeks even if a dozen squirrels ate it every day. It looks like I'll need to fill this with water every two or three days since there are a lot of birds flying around. It's still a price I'm willing to pay if keeping the tree rats from stealing the seeds keeps them in check. I have attached a short video showing squirrels trying to access the Squirrel Buster Standard mostly they fail, but about halfway through one gets a good grasp and you can clearly see the ports close and the squirrel must have been unsuccessful at gaining access. Up to date My feeder has been on my porch for about a month It seems as though the squirrels have given up trying to attack One gives it a try about once a week, fails miserably, and then returns to feeding from the fallen leaves. Due to a lack of easily accessible data I have noticed a reduction in squirrel population in my backyard after establishing an easy-access squirrel smorgasbord.

However, the feeder's small size has proven to be an issue for me. I run the risk of having to empty it on the second day if I don't refill it every As long as it is mild and there is no snow on the ground, I am not going to think this is a big deal. But if there were a couple of feet of snow, I might think otherwise. The seed has also been a problem because the tube's bottom opening is rather small, and it passes through that tiny opening before reaching I bought some seeds from a store that contained dried fruit, and the fruit has got stuck in the opening and impeding the flow of seeds. I think it is a matter of incompatibility of seed I have with this feeder, not so much a problem with the feeder itself. However, those who purchase this feeder should be aware of this. From a distance, a feeder may appear filled with seed mix like this, but the bird won't be able to access any of All things considered, I am still very happy with my It is my only regret that I didn't discover this feeder earlier. The following is an update The Squirrel Buster Plus was so successful I decided to get its big brother, the Squirrel Buster Plus plus. There are smaller holes in the one above the feeding tray, which is much larger, but also located above the The larger opening of the feeder keeps the majority of seed inside the feeder except for a few that would otherwise get scattered. The birds have to poke their beaks into the feeder to be able to get to the seed. As a result, we must draw attention to a significant flaw in the Squirrel Buster Standard. The feeding ports are extremely large. Seed is scattered all over the place by messy eaters. In addition to the Plus that has been hanging up for awhile, I've just put up the Standard. The standard was emptied in about six hours, with most of the seed to be found In fact, the squirrels don't need to eat directly from the feeder they just sit beneath it and graze on the spills. It's not likely that I'll be able to reduce the size of the openings, so I'm going to see what I can do. Keeping squirrels out of this feeder is an advantage, however the rate of spillage is so high that it is almost insignificant. If the squirrels were able to feed from it, then the feeder would empty almost as fast.

Great bird feeder, but I don't know how to attach it
4/5

I find the bird feeder to be almost ideal. It kept the squirrels away (which I might add was quite amusing to watch) and eventually they just gave up on it and seldom returned. There is only one reason why this bird feeder loses a star - it seems to be made for the smallest birds, which is kind of a bummer. I hate to see blue jays and cardinals climb onto the perches for the feeder, and if they get on, eat from it. Each feeder has a glass and a metal tray for the seed. In the coming days, I plan on making some changes to fix this problem and will let you know how it goes. But other than that, this is a **Edit as follows The photos I took after the modification are now in the gallery. It is my hope that it will help.

As far as I can tell, so far so good
5/5

Yet there is no sign of squirrels. We are reviewing Brome 1057 Squirrel Buster Standard feeder in this review.

This feeder is very well made, as it is very substantial. Once the birds found it, it took a couple days for them to visit it, but now there is a steady line at feeding time Despite having a lot of squirrels around our yard, the squirrels (we have tons of them) have not even managed to access the feeder so far. With the aid of a 3' long piece of steel picture hanging wire (4 strands twisted together), I hung it about 5' above the ground from a tree branch. They would be cut off from the seed supply even if they reached the roof because the smoothly operated mechanism would shut it off right away. At the start of the experiment, a squirrel sat on the top of the wire trying to figure out how to get on the feeder roof, but had no In fact, they almost never climb any longer. Most of the time, they just look at the wire, and they sit on the ground underneath at feeding time to pick up debris that birds have knocked I also modified the perch by using copper wire to attach two pieces of wood to each perch to make more space for the birds to perch. In response to what another reviewer wrote, I made two additional perches from copper wire and dowel. We are proud to present to you our first-ever bird feeder! It is one that I would definitely buy again, it works well and is reasonably priced. We really enjoy watching the variety of birds that visit this nest.

(Seen in the pictures are the hanging method and the Update after 6 weeks) I scared the squirrel away because he tried to get on the feeder, but it worked as designed and he didn't succeed in getting anything, just being a nuisance. It has been over a year since he last visited!.
