Questions & Answers

Is there a way to find out how many cups of nectar this holds?

There were not exactly

What is the easiest way to clean the base? Does it unscrew?

I think it does, and it has a wide mouth. You can actually reach into the glass for a thorough clean. We tried five different feeders before finding this one, and it has proven to be the best. These red plastic/glass ones are more preferred by our birds than the red ones we used to have. It is made from all metal, so put it in the shade so that it doesn't overheat. In order to feed, they go down into the flowers rather than flying and flying up into them, so with several different types of feeders in the yard, they always go to these feeders as it is easier for them to drink.

My husband and I don't know if hummingbirds live in our area, how will we know if they'll show up?

The hummingbird seems to inhabit every corner of the world. A thirty year old feeder that I built 30 years ago had no idea whether any birds would flock to it. There have always been many Hummers in my collection. A 2d feeder was added this year and I am very happy with it Accessed this page and purchased it. I ended up replacing my old faithful with one of these after it received such an enormous response. The necter is now so fast that I can barely keep up with it. keep in mind that they should be migrating south for the winter, so you probably won't see them. It is possible you will see a lot since they are still on the move and very hungry, at least in my area of northern California. There were dozens of them today, but they should soon disappear for the rest of the Feeders like this are very popular among them.

Do you have base metal or plastic here? Is it possible to have two different responses?

There are two parts to the vase the bottom is plastic, and the top

A Product that is Defective This company provided poor customer service
3/5

I bought three of these attractive bird feeders because hummingbirds in our area tend to fight over them. They are liked by birds, but unfortunately, there is a flaw in manufacturing which results in a weak spot at the junction between the top and Initially, I thought I had bumped it or done something wrong to cause it to snap off however, I actually didn't do anything wrong. I noticed that the second one did the same thing even with careful handling, which led me to believe that they were just poorly made and very weak at that joint. The third one, still intact, is showing cracks and is no longer usable. Last but not least, I would like to mention that Life and Home is shortened to More Birds. This company conceals behind its 30-day return policy despite the fact that an overwhelming amount of complaints suggest that they are selling faulty goods.

Ship it out, patch it up, and ship it out
3/5

A defect causes the top of the feeder to become detached. Numerous people have reported the problem. The manufacturer did indeed listen to the issue, but responded by offering nothing more than a band aid. It's evident from the accompanying photo that my hummingbird feeder arrived this week with an expedient jury-rigged box. It is rigged. If you have a zip code I have attached a tie to hold the top in place if the seal breaks down, as is likely to happen sooner or later. We did not receive instructions or explanations on how to use it. Only after reading the reviews on Amazon did I learn about it. On Amazon's listing, the estimated delivery time now reads "one to two months," whereas when I ordered it, the estimated delivery time was supposed to be "one or two days. " In this case, it seems logical to assume that the manufacturer is re-making the product Our group aims to produce an improved design by the end of the week. At the same time, they didn't want to lose any revenue, so they shipped defective feeders equipped with a quick and dirty fix. The white zip tie does not appear to have any explanation, as I noted earlier. My usual workflow would have been to clip it off if I hadn't read about the problem. The More Birds Corporation did a great job.

After a month, it broke
3/5

Spending money is a waste of time. It was about a month ago that I bought it. To prepare for refilling it, I took it down today and washed There was a warm, not hot, feeling to the water. As soon as I took the hummingbird solution out of my refrigerator and poured it into the container, it started to bubbl. I broke off the base of the jar just as I was putting the plastic pieces in place to invert it. The sink is filled with glass. The sugar solution is Clearly, the situation is out of control. This low quality glass does not hold up to mild thermal stress, thus requiring frequent replacement. A very disappointing experience. Your money is not worth it.

Feeder Is Attractive For My Bird Friendly Yard
4/5

Received this today and it's an attractive The first photo shows it hanging on my back porch with a cup of nectar and the second one shows that it is made up of three In this case, the glass is green, like the color of an old Coca-Cola bottle, the middle is a metallic flower made of copper, aluminum, or maybe anodized aluminum, and the bottom is made of Due to the heavy green glass, the copper colored metal base and the strong looking metal hanger, this is a more attractive product than what I found at the local big box.

The following message is a warning Birds may be at risk
3/5

This feeder was initially one of my favorites, until I noticed a dangerous flaw a few weeks after I began using it. Within the top half of the glass feeder body, where the wire hanger sits, there is a hollow "lip" round to form the shape required so that the wire remains in place. The humid environment inside the bottle of this feeder causes the area in the center of the feeder to grow mold due to it being overcrowded. Unless you are extremely careful when cleaning the feeder (and even with a good bottle brush it is not easy to clean), this area will begin to grow mold. Mold can grow faster on a warm day because heat speeds up its growth. I could not keep up with mold growth inside the top of the bottle even after changing the nectar every day or two, and cleaning it as thoroughly as possible between each change of nectar. You have to pour the fresh nectar into the bottle before installing the feeding platform and then invert it, so if there is a slight bit of mold that you missed while cleaning, the nectar comes into contact with it, which may affect the health of Nectar also goes bad faster when exposed to it. The risk of making hummingbirds sick is too large to take for a feeder as pretty and solid as this one. In any case, I regret that this needs to be replaced with something with no interior areas with which to easily sanitize. However, if you have a bit of crafty ability, you could try filling the interior lip area with food-safe material instead. I'd like to fill in that problem area with a safe epoxy resin (if I can find one). The bottle may be replaced with one that is safer for the birds to drink when I have some free time. But for now, this is the bottle that will be replaced with a much safer one.

You're the best! My order was delivered last June, and I have been using it ever since (for about 10 months)
5/5

Those are the cheap red plastic bird feeders I have hanging next to them. There's no more use of the plastic bird feeder, all the birds fight over this one now. We liked the look and took a chance on the product because of the reviews, making the decision to buy the product worth it. I can see where some say the bottom might pop off, but my own has never done so. We love this feeder more than any other we have ever had, and the birds seem to agree. I just ordered two more because we like it so much. This is a highly recommended read. The bottoms are a bit fragile, but a little care should solve the issue. EDIT 7/4/19 I can now confirm that the bottoms are a bit fragile, but I do not think that it is a significant problem. One of the feeders broke because I dropped it in the sink while I was cleaning it. However, it was my own fault as it had been broken by my own fault. Although not as sturdy as it should have been, I should have handled them with more care knowing they are fragile. In spite of that, I love the look of them and get so many hummers between the two feeders I still have that I bought I am still giving them 5 stars, but because of the fragility of the bottoms I am going to reduce my rating slightly to 4 stars. The stars are 5 out of 5. But even with that, they are still worth your consideration.
