Questions & Answers

The "My Spy Birdhouse" appears to be made by the National Security Agency. Can it be trusted?

There is nothing I recommend about this bird house, nor any window bird house that has been given a cheapening treatment Having tried My Spy Birdhouse with my little ones, I rate it highly. A lack of suctions cups, however, causes the nest to fall, when there are not enough to hold it in place. Chirping for worms you hear a chick do, but as soon as the nest falls down the chicks die. Make sure you select ones with a lot of suction cups, so that they won't stick to your windows in the winter. Install them in the summer when the temperature is not so cold. I have also found that we often have defective suction cups that come with window nests and window feeders that aren't adhering to the windows when we apply a little oil to the back of the suction cups. A window nest box in my youth that was sturdy, stayed on, and was not easily tipped over was another way of saving money for manufacturers in the era time. You would produce sturdy suction cup nest boxes if you were concerned about birds as well as about your children learning from them, and you would have enough suction cup nest boxes to use.

If you don't want to insert anything that makes the hole smaller, do you just leave it out so that you have the best chance of getting ?

This isn't something we did, but it is an option you have. There is no sharp edge on the hole so it won't hurt the bird when it is dragged through. In this area there are a lot of little birds such as sparrows, wrens, chickdees, and orioles, so we wanted to make sure blackbirds and larger birds cannot get into the area.

Is it true that it worked?

The picture has been hanging on the window for quite a while now. I think it was too late to wake up the birds this year, Mom says. This will work, in my opinion. It took me two years to get a tenant for the birdhouse I had in the back of my house. Thanks, and I hope that helped!

Is it easy to clean? Does it open up?

The item was given to my cousin as a Christmas present, so I have no idea how much it is worth. My thought is simply to pull it off the glass, clean it, and suction cup it back on again.

Perhaps I will remove some of the old stuff from the window and fit in some better quality stuff
5/5

My kids each received one of these, one from each of us. During the rainy season in Ohio, one day in early March, I walked out of our house and saw all the birds sitting on downspouts all over the neighborhood (it was windy that day), so I thought hell with it Two of my windows went on the side of my house, one behind a large shrub in front of the house, and one behind a shrub in front Before handling the one behind the shrub, I made sure I dipped my hands in a rain puddle, and after hanging it up, I threw some leaves on it to cover any smell (I figured what the heck-- It didn't hurt to have ) the 2nd one which I did not do anything with It was not necessary to install an insert for the entry hole in either house (I am not sure if that made a difference). There were a couple of birds in the one behind the shrub, but none in the one on the side of the house out in the open. In either case, I did not include the mirror since apparently it did not have much impact. My kids will probably be able to watch better as I may buy some good quality material to hang on the window itself, since we only peek in once or twice a week and never get a very good look at what's going on. Thanks for sharing this. I hope it is helpful to anyone considering it!.

This wall is well built and the reflective surface is a great feature
5/5

This wall is well built and the reflective surface is a great feature. The bird pen has yet to be populated, so I probably need to do an initial "decoration" of the space. In addition, I'm not sure whether or not you're supposed to use the peg as I think some birds (maybe all) do not want another animal or bird to be able to sit on it and easily gain entry into their nest, but I could.

Months have gone by with no birds to be seen
3/5

Despite having the bird house on display for months without bringing any birds into it, I still haven't seen a single one. She has several birds eating at her house in the day who have no interest in it. I gave it to my mom to see whether she could feed it to them.

I love it! In less than a month, I was down! A month of hanging was not enough to keep me When I followed all of the instructions and it fell down, I was very disappointed
3/5

This is a very cheaply made product. The only thing I'm glad about at that point is that no birds had settled there.

I find this to be a very clever concept
3/5

This seems like a very clever idea, but there have been no birds for about five According to my research online, proper placement should be done as follows - Make sure it is away from heavily trafficked areas, high off the ground to protect it from predators, and facing a window whose light is strong (especially during the day's first hours). As of yet, I have had nothing but a few bees that built a tiny cone and then left. My mood has taken a turn for the worse.

Purchase this item at your own risk
3/5

It was filthy and broken when it arrived. In the plastic, a film of dirt appeared as if it has been used and left outside for a long period of time. There were cracks and broken off portions of the thin slots that held the roof on. This is nothing to be proud of. It didn't even have a proper package.

After about a month, I've finally been able to set up the birdhouse and establish a nest for House Wrens. This is so great!.

An entire colony of bees was given to me
5/5

My birdhouse was assembled in less than five minutes I attached it to a window shortly thereafter. A while ago, I had one of these and while I didn't get a bird's nest, I did get a bee colony, which is currently the most important thing.
