It can stop spinning due to anything, birdseed, grass, leaves, it doesn't take much to stop it spinning. You can keep it spinning if you keep your birdbath clean every week, skiing the crud floating at the top so it doesn't stop it. It works today I unplug the battery when it gets cold in Minnesota to put it away in winter it lasts nearly 6 months It has been working for just 8 months in my state so it is still out there today after three months This product does the job but you'll need to keep the bird bath clean, remove algae if you don't have shade like me. It works but almost anything hitting the spinning part will cause it to stop spinning. Or you could just open it up and clean the bird bath every week.
If the bird bath has an electric heater, then yes it will. My home state of Indiana has been experiencing some extremely cold temperatures lately. does not bother the birds when they drink, and keeps chugging along no matter what.

Buying this is my second time doing so. I started out with the battery-operated one using two D cells. The batteries on that model lasted about a month, but the device wasn't as useful. The following update is to my earlier comment In fact, Miller Manufacturing told me I had a defective motor when I contacted them about it. The manufacturer has agreed to send me a replacement since I was still within the warranty period. It is a great company and it is easy to work with them. This water wiggler was well received by birds as well as by humans. I wish it could have lasted longer, but it didn't. Even before I bought it, I thought it was an expensive purchase I don't know if it has a problem with the battery or the circuits, but I cannot bear to own it for only a few months. The battery included looks large enough to last for years, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Although this worked very well, I am very disappointed that the birds were attracted to it. Such a pity.
The bird bath began to be noticed and visited within several hours of the water wiggler being installed. It is amazing how solar energy recharges the batteries. It worked as long as it lasted. In spite of this, the motor stopped working after three months. As I began testing the solar panel, I turned it on. I removed the solar panel when I was unable to get it to work. After testing the motor, I moved on to checking the fan. There is nothing. This battery was different from the one I normally use.
