Questions & Answers

Please tell me where those two small ball bearings go that I found after assembling the Oregon 410-W How do you sharpen a 120 degree angle? I appreciate it very much. ?

Under the tooth angle setting there is a bolt on the bottom. Remove the bolt and there should be 2 springs. These are what goes on the Originally the bearings fell out because it was not packaged tight however, if you keep it tight, you should not have a problem

This product should work properly with a 3/8 pitch, 5/32 diameter low profile. Is chain necessary?

If you change wheels to 5/32, it will be fine

What is the effectiveness of sharpening chain chisels with this tool?

Yes, that is my answer. It is my duty to sharpen chisel and semi-rigid blades Both the chisel and the cutter cut well. The machine is a very versatile machine.

A stand like the one in the photo is shown in the answer above. Where can I find one?

For various tools, I made my own desk and use clamps to keep it in place, so I can remove it and reuse the table when necessary.

On this grinder, you will find Stihl chains
4/5

This unit has a nice look to it. In order to use Stihl chains, I needed to grind down the bushing that sets the gap the chain slides along, as it was too wide and wouldn't hold the many different types of After that was done, I was in need of Stihl chain angles, because they aren't listed in the Oregon manual. My research turned up the following
Stihl grinder guide recommends 30 side / vice angle, 85 grinding wheel tilt, 0 degree tilt or 90 degree vertical incline
For RM Rapid Micro, semi chisel "? *" shape yellow label chains
Chain Biox literature says 30/75/0
Smart forums guys say 0. "
When a chain is cut at 60 degrees and 85 degrees, it will split. Among the angles of correspondence of the chain grinding/filing process, this one is the most overlooked. When a chain is held in wood by this angle, it is smooth and grabby, which is what draws it to the It is often thought that a depth gauge is completely responsible for causing a chain to self feed, but that is only part of the story. Cutting edges made of hardwood will tend to endure hardwood longer and smoother at an angle of 85 degrees. However, many species found in the US may not necessarily require the added strength of an 85 degree To get the best results from the wood you are cutting, you need to find what works well for it. Wood that sinks in water and does well at 75 degrees works well for me. When the wheels are turned 60°, the ride is less smooth and harder on the I would think 60° would work well for softer species and would perform better than a lower temperature. My guess is that 75 is ideal for Mo hardwoods, plus I will be sure to place rakers at the correct depth once cutting begins. Good luck and have a safe cutting day.

The name Oregon is one worth trusting
5/5

In the winter I cut a lot of firewood, so my chainsaw was in need of a little maintenance. lived 16 miles away from the closest sharpening shop and the prospect of driving up and back and waiting or having to make another trip because the store was too busy to take my order right away, and paying someone else to do the work I could may have done The Oregon 410-sharpener was a great choice after I did some research on sharpeners As hard as it was to say, I knew that Oregon was a brand I could trust, as opposed to some of the cheaper brands. Something dependable was what I was looking for It was a sharpener I could rely on for many years. The first thing I did when I received it was to take it to my shop to unpack and put it together. I felt the item was solid and well made, and the workmanship was excellent. It is easy to assemble, so I mounted two runners to a 2" x 6" board at the bottom to make a platform for mounting the sharpener All I need to do is clamp it to a horizontal surface and it's ready to use. With a dull chain in hand and following the instructions carefully, I started the project. I found the process to be simple and quick. Taking the twisty tie from a sack of hot dog buns, I threaded it around the chain so I could keep track of where I started sharpening. I finished sharpening both the left and right cutters within a few minutes. Having done a good job, I was anxious to see if I had done it well. As soon as I put the chain back on the saw, I went to look for wood. Once the saw was running, I checked that the bar oiler was working properly, then I got to work I am amazed! Stunning! The chain appeared to cut through the wood like a brand If you are just starting out and looking to save a little time and money, this is the unit you should get.

I think its far better to dress up the ones I already have than to invest in new ones
4/5

I am an ISA-certified arborist and run my own tree removal business full-time. It was a good decision for me because I have nearly 50 chains including chains for 36" to 80" This bar measures 59" wide. belief is that it would be better to dress up the ones I have rather than to spend $40 or more on new ones The price for new ones is $100 each. My conclusion is that no matter how carefully I set it up and how much time I spent figuring out all the little details, I think this is a fantastic product and a If you have never used a grinder before, watch a lot of YouTube videos to familiarize yourself with it. The purpose of this is to learn patience and with a little practice, this works quite well. There is one thing to keep in mind. Identify the cause of the micro wobble before correcting the wheels. Mine are mounted on a 2x10 that is positioned across my bench when I need them. In my opinion, this product is worth buying.

The Sharpener is probably one of the best you can get in this price As a young person I didn't really understand the importance of a sharp blade, and learning how to sharpen it myself, until I owned a chainsaw and began milling raw lumber out of the logs I felled myself with an Alaskan chainsaw mill
5/5

The Sharpener is probably one of the best you can get in this price This unit works quite well for sharpening my ripping blades and my regular blades, which I use primarily on my chain saw. It's imperative to learn how to use it for both safety reasons as well as for sharpening. You should be able to get the hang of it quite quickly, but as serious chainsaw users know, it takes a very precise setup to sharpen different blades, and you must learn to just do it enough to get a sharp edge. A hole could easily be drilled right through a tooth with this guy in just a few seconds. In spite of all that, once the technique has been mastered, it will save you a lot of My personal experience indicates that it has more than paid for itself.
