Questions & Answers
The raker pokes through the tool's slot, while the depth gauge rests on top of the cutting teeth. The raker is ground flush with the depth gauge with the flat file. br>br>The cutting tooth's cutting depth is determined by the raker. As you sharpen the cutting teeth, they become shorter over time. Because the tooth can't grab enough wood if your rakers are too high, your sharp chain will cut as if it's dull. The cutting teeth will bite too much wood if the rakers are too short, and the cut will become stuck. Short rakers also cause the saw to jump around in the cut, potentially causing kickback. br>br>The rakers have no effect on clearing wood chips from the teeth; instead, the chain rotates.
Both can be accomplished with the same kit!
There are two clips in the guide, one at each end. The 5/32" and 3/16" will fit in one clip, but neither will fit in the other. I'm not sure why it's there. It is not necessary to use the guide. I prefer to use the wooden handle alone. The guide aids in the teaching of the angle, but it is more trouble than it is worth.

Thank you for visiting Amazon! I review the products I buy on Amazon in a fairly straightforward manner, beginning with number one and working my way down. br> to- 1 is the worst, 3 is mediocre, and 5 is fantastic. Let us get this party started! For a visual reference, as well as advice and caution, please see my photos. br>br>This is a simple and inexpensive sharpening kit for chainsaw chains. It's not perfect, but believe me when I say it works for me, and I'm a complete novice when it comes to chainsaws. It only takes a little elbow grease and a vice, but I sharpen my chain without one and it works just as well as the new chain I bought. br>br>I gave this product a five-star rating because it is both inexpensive and simple to use. br>br>Use tips/advice: instructions aren't always the best, so watch a couple of YouTube videos before using it. When it came to sharpening the chain, I discovered something. When sharpening from left to right, make sure you remove the same amount of metal from each tooth and keep your hand steady and level. Sharpen with a 44-degree angle as well. View the videos once more. Advice: br>br> When using this product, make sure to wear leather gloves and goggles, as well as chainsaw protection and a vice. However, it is not required. br>br>Warning: I am not an expert, but as a non-expert chainsaw chain sharpener user, I can attest to the effectiveness of this product. I really like the product, and it's very simple to use. Important! br>br> If you like my review, please support it by clicking the helpful button. After my chainsaw received an unexpected workout due to a downed tree caused by a heavy rainstorm at the end of the summer, I purchased this kit. I had trouble finding a replacement chain for the chainsaw I had because it had a rare pitch/size and was too dull to use safely. After doing some research online, I came across this sharpening kit and decided to give it a try. br>br>It looks difficult, but after watching a video online, I was sharpening like a pro and giving that dull chain a new lease on life. I can probably reshape the chain for a while if I continue to be careful and don't do anything that snaps it. br>br>An added bonus is bragging to my wife about sharpening my chainsaw, which sounds like complicated manly man stuff. But, unlike my friends, she is unimpressed, saying, "Be careful you don't cut your finger off, did you take out the trash?" "br>br>But jokes on her; I know she's envious that she doesn't have a chainsaw sharpening file kit, and I'm not lending her mine. ".
I own two chainsaws: a Stihl and a Craftsman. Both of them are covered by this kit. Without a doubt, this is a purchase that should be made. Advantages: br>br>
- Files and handling are of good quality.
- The rakers' depth gauge is included in the package. br>- Has a storage case for all of the tools. br>br>Tips:
- Make sure you're using the right chainsaw chain diameter for your chainsaw. To keep the teeth as even as possible when sharpening your chain, use smooth, slow strokes.
- If this is your first time sharpening your chainsaw chain, I highly recommend watching Tips from a Shipwright's YouTube video. He has a video on how to hand file a chainsaw chain that covers everything you need to know.
- After you've sharpened your chain, make sure it doesn't come into contact with dirt or rocks, as this will quickly dull it.
- Saw "dust" is not produced by a sharp chain, but nice filings are produced instead. It's time to sharpen if you can see more "dust" than filings. With this kit, you get a photo of saw filings from a sharpened chain.
This kit was purchased in order for me to learn how to sharpen chainsaw blades. Prior to this, I had to pay to have them professionally sharpened. The instructions aren't exactly clear, but I found a couple of videos online and gave it a shot. They did an excellent job sharpening the blades in a fraction of the time I expected. It's so simple that after an hour of cutting, I went back to touch them up. If you're paying someone to sharpen your blades, this set is a good investment. You'll save money and have the satisfaction of knowing that you're taking care of your own equipment.
This. Is. Garbage. It has the appearance of something that was once good, but has had all of the build quality removed in order to manufacture it as cheaply as possible. (1) The metal clips that hold the angle guide to the file are so soft, cheap, and flimsy that they pop open all the time. As a result, the guide frequently falls off during use, rendering it completely useless. I tried using zip ties to strengthen these ridiculously weak clips, but it was ineffective. I threw it away after two failed attempts to use it. br>(2) The wooden file handle is, once again, of poor quality, and the file frequently comes loose and slides out. If you want a useful tool, look for something with a higher build quality. This is not something I would suggest.
I own a tree service company, and this sharpening kit is ideal for my needs. I use it before starting jobs when I'm in a tree. It is both appropriate and effective. It accomplishes all of its objectives. Strong but manageable in size. This product has exceeded my expectations in every way.
The sharpening guide does not place the file at the proper depth to properly sharpen the teeth, which is a shame because it is a nice complete set. It's built in such a way that it ends up removing parts of the body that it shouldn't. I've had a few of these types of guides before, so I'm familiar with the product and how to use it properly. I only used it for the first time two days ago, and I wish I had used it soon after it arrived 3 or 4 months ago so I could have returned it and replaced it with a brand known for its quality and dependability. However, it is entirely my fault for not doing so earlier. I hope that this information will assist you in making your own decision.
