Selected User Reviews For Nokta Makro Simplex Waterproof Detector with 11" Coil

For a lot less money, you can get a great detector
5/5

This detector is exactly what most people predicted it would be. I'll admit that I've only used it a few times, but it gets the job done. I own an AT Pro and believe that once a user understands the VDI numbers, the two are very comparable. If that tells you anything, the VDI numbers for a nickel on the Pro are typically 53 and around 24 on the Simplex. I haven't quite figured out how to rule out the can slaw and trash as well as I have on the Pro, but I believe I will. Overall, I believe each machine has a distinct advantage over the other in certain areas; however, in my opinion, the Simplex offers almost identical functionality to the AT Pro, with the exception that the Simplex costs around $350 less. If you want a "Good" detector that will find targets in the ground, is waterproof, and can compete with higher-priced machines for a fraction of the price, this is the machine to get. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Exceptionally good value for money!! It's time for an honest review now that I've had this detector for a few months and have had the opportunity to use it
5/5

I am completely enamored with this detector! I ordered one on Amazon for a lower price, but I quickly realized that the lack of options and settings would quickly bore me. I then placed an order for this one and was delighted from the moment I received it. I can't compare this to any other brands because it's my first (technically second) detector, but I'm very pleased with what I've learned so far about it. br> Because it's waterproof, it's super easy to clean up after a day at the beach; simply rinse and go! When it comes to being waterproof, that also helps keep sand and other debris out of the detector if you set it down in the sand. br> The collapsible shaft is a fantastic feature that I hadn't considered before. We have four children, so I can still fit the detector in the back of the van when we are fully loaded. I'm 6'2" and the extra length is more than enough for me to get a good swing. Depending on their arm length, I'd say it'd be suitable for someone up to 6'4" or so. On the bottom of the shaft, there's a small indentation that indicates where the rear adjustment should be aligned. On the side of the lower shaft section, there are also numbers (1-). 6) to adjust the height It's very easy to use! br> My father-in-law-in-law-in-law-in-law- Recently, my law and I went detecting, and I was able to hit targets in the 8-foot range. His detector never hit even when he dug 10" deep in dry sand. His detector would hit the target once I'd dug about halfway down. He has a $100 detector (Bounty Hunter) that he got from Amazon. br> I read the reviews incorrectly, but this detector will not work with any wireless headphones other than Notka-branded headphones. I didn't want the headphones, so I didn't order them. It came with a headphone adaptor, but it's a 1/4" adaptor, so keep that in mind. It can only be used with a 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor. Another advantage of using an adaptor is the improved sound quality. I've never been able to use a 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor without getting scratchy noises or nothing at all. If you're going to use headphones, I'd recommend getting the wireless set. You can order the headphones at a later date and pay the same overall price. br> I'm not an expert by any means, but I do know that for the price and features, this detector is excellent. It's incredibly simple to set up and operate. I'm still getting used to the sounds and vdi numbers on the display, but I'm getting there.

Better than the majority of sub-$1,000 machines
4/5

Overall, I'm very impressed with this machine, which excels in yards, fields, and parks. Target recovery is quick, and target ID is accurate up to 5 inches deep (depending on mode and sensativity), so it's a good machine for trashy areas. When compared to Garrett and Teknetics machines, this thing blows them away. Now for my take on things. This isn't a good beach machine; no matter how you set it up, it won't reach the deeper targets (3 inches or more). It prefers aluminum, but you can use the target ID to filter it out with a little practice. Iron is favored by the all-metals mode, while higher-range targets (aluminum and larger silver) are preferred by the beach mode. Every mode (all metals, field, park, and beach) has its own set of benefits. In any mode I use on this machine, I now prefer to run it at near-full sensitivity. br> It's chatty, but it adds depth and clearly hits the intended targets. Last but not least, get yourself some headphones. It will make it easier for you to hear the more distant targets. br>If you're looking for a metal detector with pro features at a reasonable price, the simplex is the way to go.

Don't be fooled by the publicity
3/5

I've only had a little time with the machine, but it's read a zinc penny, clad quarter, bottle cap, and silver dime as 79 to 82 on the id, ground balance is iffy, and pinpoint is at best 2" off. I've had to ground balance several times because it won't pick up even 2" deep quarters unless I ground balance several times. I was hoping for a lot more based on the reviews. So far, my Fisher F22 has proven to be superior. I'm hoping for much better results once the ground thaws because we still have 2" of frost on the ground.

For the money, this is a fantastic machine
4/5

So I'm a newbie, but I'm also a techie who pays attention to small details. I've never used a machine with a price tag of more than $500. My family has been using a Garrett Ace 300, and we love it so much that we had to get another one. I didn't want to spend another dime on the same machine. I didn't want to try something else because I didn't like the Garrett. Maybe it'll uncover information that Garrett won't. br>br>I was able to answer yes to that question. Each machine has its own set of advantages, and I'm glad to have them both. The Nokta appears to find more items, but it is more difficult to operate. It's noisy, and the controls aren't as easy to use as they could be. It is, however, water resistant. I find it more difficult to decipher, but with practice, you will pick up on the sounds. br>br>If I had to pick one, I would go with the Garrett Ace 400. Why? Because I prefer the Garrett's controls and the Nokta Makro's 400 steps up to the double D coil over the Ace 300. br>br>With my purchase, I'm pleased. br>br>On a side note, the Nokta pinpointer is a waste of money. Garrett in Orange is available for purchase. There isn't a comparison to be made. It's critical to have a good pinpointer.
