Yes, this is possible. Burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, and other foods have all been prepared on the grill. It's a good product that can withstand heat. After the paint is burned off, it will rust, but a little WD-40 will help. 40 makes the "hinging" work again every now and then. (the WD- Of course, 40 is expended). Cooking on this grill is a joy.
It is 9 inches when the legs are fully extended. It will be 5" tall with the legs straight up and 10" tall with the legs straight up. We use this grill all year in our large fire pit, and it's a great size. If you buy it, you won't be disappointed.
Yes, it's built to withstand a lot of abuse.

br>br>First and foremost, I would not immediately cook on it. It's painted black, and it'll peel off, as other reviewers have mentioned. I bought two 16x9 Griddles (see below), which covered half of the grill perfectly. The griddles can be used in both directions. On one half of the grill, I was able to boil water and make coffee while cooking everything from bacon to burgers. from burgers to eggs On the other side, there were dogs, and it was the best camping/cooking experience I've ever had. (I prefer to camp by fire rather than using gas. ) )br>br>If you're looking for a big, heavy-duty grill, this is it; just make sure you use it correctly. I'll update this post after a few more uses to see if I'm comfortable cooking directly on it, and I'd like to include a photo so you can see how cool this set up with the griddles is! This weekend, I used it yet again. br>br> I couldn't be more pleased. Look at the image below.

You've left a family with stomach problems for days. I'm not the only one who has expressed dissatisfaction with the paint job. To get around this problem, I spent nearly two hours burning a lot of wood underneath the grill. Following that, I prepared three different meals for myself, my son, and my daughter as part of a casual cookout night. Over the course of two days, we were all plagued by severe stomach pains, nausea, and diarrhea. I started a return, but it's not worth it to pay $15 for a new box to return this. I'm throwing it in the trash. Amazon is fantastic, but they should do the right thing and stop selling this product.
It's serviceable, but it's not built to last. That is not at all how I would describe it. The metal is much thinner than I anticipated, and it's quite flimsy. They should have used nuts and bolts instead of the cheap rivets. I was hoping to be able to stand on this thing if I needed to, but you can't. This is definitely not heavy duty, but it is medium to light duty.
I'll be back right away!.
On this thing, I can make a TON of delicious food. When it's not being used over the fire, it doubles as a cool little table! br>Keep in mind that the paint must be burned off, but if you do camp fiestas like we do, it will take a couple of times to clean it all off and make the surface safe for direct cooking. br>For the first couple of times, you can just use old cookie sheets or aluminum foil, but after that, you're set!.
Great for adding a grill to coals or a fire, but NOT FOR COOKING DIRECTLY ON THE SURFACE. I only said that because I'd seen other people express their dissatisfaction with it. Paint has been splattered all over the grill. The grill isn't very high off the ground, and there's no way to adjust it unless you sink your fire or put it on blocks. Nonetheless, it saves you from having to put your cookware on the fire, which is a plus in my book!.
This is a great large surface for cooking outdoors with a large family or scout troop. If you don't have any footed cast iron to stack with coals, you can use regular cast iron. Foil packs can be placed on a cookie sheet or directly on the surface. br>br>We needed some help from previous reviews, so we'll use foil for a while until the paint burns off.
The construction is sound, but when placed near a fire, the paint oxidized and flaked off, posing a risk of contamination from off-gassing chemicals. This isn't something I'd use in the kitchen.
