Questions & Answers

Will the smoke alarm go off if it's used indoors?

THIS SHOULD NOT BE USED INDOORS - This is an OUTDOOR cooking appliance that should only be used outside of the home, away from any combustibles (including your own home).

What is the cooking area's diameter?

14 inches in length

Is he a smoker as well?

It is absolutely possible to use it as a smoker. You'll only need a heat diffuser and you'll be able to smoke like you would on a full-sized kamado grill. For the size and price, this is a fantastic and versatile grill and smoker, and the lump charcoal is extremely efficient.

When it comes to seasoning the grill, how do you go about it?

I used three steps to season the grill.
1. Inside top, bottom, and sides were all wiped clean. Using a warm damp cloth, wipe down the fire chamber.
2. Fire grate and cast iron grill have both been washed and dried. Then, using a light coat of Crisco, brush it all over and between the grates, and set it aside until you're ready to fire up the grill.
3. Using 20 Kingford briquets and 3 Hickory chunks, I lit the grill and placed the greasy cast iron grate on top. I kept the grill at about 400 degrees for 2 hours, then reduced the temperature to 300 degrees and just let her smoke and glow until the group was cold. That's all there is to it. br> The grill is ready to use now that it has been seasoned.

I knew that going in, but it was a good temporary solution until I could afford something more permanent
5/5

It's not a Green Egg, believe it or not! I knew that going in, but it was a good temporary solution until I could afford something more permanent. Every night, I cook on it, and I've discovered that it, like any other grill, has its own quirks. At first, I thought it was cooked too hot, but then I realized you have to adjust the temperature before it gets too hot. Allow it to get close to the temperature you want it to be before using the factory settings a1/4. Plus 1/8, plus 1/8, plus 1/8, plus 1/8, and so on And she'll maintain that temperature for the duration of your grilling session. Don't try to sear it at 500 degrees Fahrenheit and then be disappointed when it doesn't cool as quickly as an Egg or Joe. When I had a roommate with both, I used to cook on a green egg and kamodoe joe for years. I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on myself at my own house when I first moved out. It doesn't have the same natural Smokey flavor as the porcelain models, but I've begun to compensate by using wood chips. Overall, for the price, I'm very pleased with it. Those who claim the lid falls off or the grate breaks after a few months of ownership probably overtorqued the screws with a drill or allowed the heat on the grate to get too hot. (If you let it, it will heat up quickly!) I read the reviews and used a hand held screw driver on the parts I didn't want to fall off, and I've had no problems; I clean my grate before and after each use, and it still looks brand new after months of daily use. Great product for all levels of grillers and those who take pride in cooking everything over lump charcoal that can be re-used after you've finished grilling.

It appeals to me
5/5

Grilling is something I was born to do. I wanted to weigh in on this grill because it has received some mixed reviews. Hopefully, I'll be able to provide an objective and accurate assessment. To begin, I think it's fantastic. Grilling is something I was born to do. My grandfather created the very first Hasty-Potato-Potato-Pot After WWII, I worked as a baker for Grant Hastings, so I know a thing or two about grilling. Hasty- Baked goods are a tried and true favorite. This is my first foray into the Kamando world, and I'm glad I went with this option. Because I don't require the large size, I'll go with the Jr. is ideal for a couple of stakes, some chicken, a couple of pieces of fish, a rack of lamb, and other similar dishes (for about 1-person). 3 people)br>br>There has been a lot of discussion about whether or not to put the Akorn Jr. together. I'll be the one to put something 180-degrees together. It took 30 minutes to put this assembly together because it was rotated 90 degrees backwards every time. I didn't have to un-install anything, and it only took a few minutes. anything is possible! The instructions were easy to understand and follow. I have no doubts about other people's misfortunes. parts that have been aligned - Some of them include photographs - This one, on the other hand, came together beautifully with only a large-capacity battery. phillips phillips phillips phillips phillip Because of the part's configuration, as shown in the photos, the handle is the only tricky part, but with a little more effort than the other parts, I noodled around and found the holes on both sides. I can't express how impressed I am with the instructions' clarity and precision. If you stick to their instructions, you should be able to finish in about 30 minutes. You'll be lighting a fire in minutes. br>br>The remarks about off-the-grid living are interesting. The following instructions deal with gassing: I set the timer for one hour at 400 and found it to be correct. It's best not to be present during that hour - The chemicals are clearly burning off, but after an hour, it subsides, and after 90 minutes, it is completely gone. I was cooking chicken and steak in minutes (up to 600) with absolutely no particle flavor. br>br>Comments on color fading - At 700-plus, this is to be expected. degrees! Yes, it fades to a slightly burnt-orange hue. But it's not a big deal if it has an orange hue (or is simply less bright). It's a beautiful unit that's also a lot of fun to use in the kitchen. br>br>At a hardware store, I saw a small Green Egg ($600) and noticed it was significantly heavier. I'm not sure if Char-Lynn is a good match for Char-Lynn The Akorn Jr. was designed by Griller. If there is a reason or benefit for the extra thickness and weight, it should be considered. I'm not going to spend another $350 to find out! This grill seems to hold heat well; when you lift the lid, the temperature drops, but that's to be expected with any grill. That is the art of grilling. br>br>I'm very pleased with my purchase, and this unit will provide me with many delicious meals. I noticed the stone was out of stock at the company (June 2017), but I'm not sure if that's a long-term issue. Whether or not to use the term I ordered a 9" stone from Amazon, which is more than enough for my needs. Also, the Jr. edition's cover. I'm in Colorado, so we get more drizzle than downpours, so I should be fine protecting it with the garage or a good ol' trash bag. (I'm looking forward to firing this up during a good snowstorm!) That will be a lot of fun:.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a worse option than the Char- Kamado Jr
3/5

is a griller. You couldn't ask for a better bang for your buck than the Char- Kamado Jr. is a griller. It's a simple way to see if you have the patience to use a kamado style grill before investing in something more substantial. br>br>Unfortunately, mine appears to have been made in a shoddy manner. The top is warped and does not line up with the bottom of the grill, as shown in the photos. As a result, the grill does not seal properly and does not heat up to its full potential. It does not retain heat for as long as it should because it does not seal. br>br>I made contact with Char- directly to the griller, but they were of no use. They suggested I contact Amazon after I emailed them photos of the manufacturing flaw. You get what you pay for, but I was dissatisfied with the company's lack of quality control and unwillingness to stand behind their products.

I bought both the Jr
5/5

and the Reg. size and I really like them. They're easy to clean and there's no worry about the ceramic cracking. I previously owned the larger model and purchased this one after realizing that the larger model takes too long for small meals. This one heats up quickly and efficiently using less charcoal, making it ideal for two people. Allow yourself a half-dozen attempts to get the hang of how much charwood to use, how to heat, and how to adjust. Once there are some used and new items at the bottom, it will heat up faster. To start the charcoal, I soak a paper towel in cooking oil, rip off pieces, and place them under the grill. Start it evenly and quickly, then let it burn until the fire has died out and you can close the lid and adjust the vents. Again, there is a learning curve, but once you figure it out, you'll love the smoke flavor and the fact that it doesn't dry out your food. This is a fantastic smoker/grill. You'll be happier with an electric grill if all you want to do is turn it on, throw some burgers on it, and eat in five minutes, but you won't get the same great taste or fun experience. It's a lot easier to clean than the green egg, and there's no risk of it cracking. For a porch or tailgate, this is a good size. If you're looking for a kamado for a reasonable price, this is the one to get. I recommend starting with this size and then progressing to a larger akorn or a BGE if you enjoy it. However, starting with this JR size and getting the hang of it is much easier. The large Akorn takes longer to heat up and uses more wood than the smaller Akorn. I was afraid it would be too small for two people. It should be three people, but it isn't.
