Questions & Answers

I have a cast iron cooking grates. Do I need to season them at all?

You can season it like you would a cast iron skillet by adding oil and heating it

When it comes to smoking alone, how does it compare? Are the aftermarket stones even necessary? I noticed there are some aftermarket stones, but are they ?

The smoking stone should definitely be purchased. If you intend to cook at 250F or less for a long period of time, this is a necessity.

Is it possible to add coals or lump coals while you are slow cooking a big piece of meat for 8 hours? Only the top of the chimney seems to be the place to add coals?

There won't be a need to add coals when you smoke. My friend and I just smoked a Butt over the weekend and managed to hold 200-225 despite overnight lows at freezing (Used the thermoworks billows for 16 hours at 235 degrees). In my curiosity, I left it run for as long as possible to see when it would drop. After 55 hours, the temperature has finally begun to drop. I also loaded more charcoal than I have ever done before, as before I had only done ribs and turkeys. Despite the fact that most of the coals were unburned, some unburned coals did remain after the vent was snuffed out by the ash pile.

Does this grill have old ashes that need to be cleaned from time to time?

Ash is extremely easy to remove. In the lower section, there is a removable one. It takes only seconds to dump the entire bottom of the ash hopper (as well as the lower vent) by unlatching the catches. As a result, hardwood charcoal does not produce very much It is possible to replace them by closing two latches and following a guide. It is possible that I experienced water in the ash pan (there is a metal sleeve. ) as the ashes and shield are separated by a metal sleeve. In reviews, I saw this was a problem with another person. It was easy to drill a 1/4" hole and solve the problem. Whenever I am not using my unit, I keep it enclosed and under cover at all times. However, the moisture comes from condensation since the unit is enclosed and the moisture is trapped. Char's behavior seems rather bizarre to me In the ash pan there is no valve to regulate the flow of water. It takes a lot of effort to remove ash from my son's Big Green Egg, since you have to scrape it out and there's no easy way to clean it.

It's great to have the grill back home The food that she cooks is excellent
3/5

The gift was purchased by my husband. This grill is amazing - I love it The food that she cooks is excellent. I bought it for my husband for his x-mas A mascot mas We checked four months later and all the bolts had melted - What can we do since the lid will not stay on and we can't close the lid? Please provide me with a contact number so I can get a replacement. There is no justification for such a behavior.

I saw how much better grilling could be after this experience
5/5

Since switching to the gas grill, I have avoided charcoal cooking for 30 years. It was convenient, but the results were mediocre at best. This all changed when we retired and moved to the south. My wife and I wanted to get a new grill for the house, so I decided to try charcoal now that there was a low-cost alternative Choosing the Green Egg as an alternative is more expensive. For pretty much the same price as a standard car As a result of the low price of this "Egg" style grill, I can now purchase a gas It would be great if the grill had a more solid stand, but I suppose that's how they managed to keep the price so low. As far as I can tell, it is performing exceptionally well since I am not constantly moving it. My understanding is that some gas grills can suffer from rust, but so far this grill has proven to be OK, and I have a feeling it will last me 9 to 10 years if it holds up the same way I would a cheap gas grill. This means it will take 10 years to be as expensive as the more expensive eggs. This is all I have to say regarding the economics of We now move on to This model is the best damn grill I've ever had. It gets more appealing to me as I learn more about it needs 250 degrees for 5 hours to slow cook/smoke ribs. Just keep an eye on the vents and make sure it stays at the temperature you're looking for. It is easy to get the best damn steak you have ever tried by sirrrring a NY Strip. Authentic smoked wings with a small frank tucked into each one are the perfect appetizer for a Superbowl Party. While I was unsure when I started using the Akorn, I'll admit that I was unsure when I started using it. It was YouTube that I discovered the little secret. The chefs I selected for the different types of food were usually of a larger size, as I believed they knew what they were doing, so I favored their videos. Throughout the entire meal, every single dish has been perfect. Pizza, grill ribs, strip steak, lamb loin, wings, and more. It used to be that I hated grilling, but now I can't seem to get out there enough. **ADDENDUM This grill is now two years old, but it's still reliable and remains a favorite of mine. Rust hasn't been an issue for long. Originally, the problem was with the shelves, and I washed them with Rustoleum to prevent it. As for my second purchase, I brought a Ceramic Pit Boss Grill from Costco because I had access to it on my way home I would have gotten another one of these, but they were out at $400. If you have not yet gotten an egg, you should go for it. There is no turning back now.

In a Kamado, the value is excellent
5/5

For a second home, I purchased this kamado grill. There is an XL BGE at my main house, as well as a kahuna kamado at my secondary house. My objective was to enjoy a large kamado without spending the full amount of money. It's time to enter Having read reviews of it that were favorable, and it was marked down to $250, I decided to give it a shot. Overall, this is a very good product for the price. We were able to put it together in a few minutes, and it is very sturdy. Upon further inspection, it is clear that the Akorn team did their homework when it came to creating their grill, since it has features that are superior to the original An important feature is that the entire bottom portion of the ash pan can be easily removed for The ash will no longer be removed from the egg guts through a scrape or sweep. In addition, the grill surface's center pulls out, which makes it much easier to add or adjust charcoal than with It appears that the Akron eggs are not much different from other eggs from the Akron region in terms of cooking, and that's a good sign. There are few places that can match Akorn if you want to enjoy the kamado experience without paying huge amounts of money.

Here's a quick guide to get you started It is amazing how well this grill works
5/5

While I am proficient in it, I do not consider myself to have The grill here isn't your daddy's Let's take a look at the Oldsmobile commercial once again if you can It may be helpful to make a video to show people how to make the transition from conventional grilling to Acorn cooking. To put it simply (pun intended) here is the main difference between this grill and the one you used to use has an extremely well insulated interior. I will demonstrate only as a matter of DEMONSTRATION The grill has a temperature of 425 degrees inside, so I can place my hand directly on top without being burned. Even though it gets warm, I can leave my old calloused hands on it for a good long time before they feel like they are going to burn. There are a number of areas on the bottom of the grill that will burn you quickly, including the very top, the seam where the top half of the grill joins the bottom half, and the bottom in general. Due to this great insulation we have two rows of blinds on this floor. Our products include 1) you must sneak up on the temperature that you prefer. When you light the grill, the temperature will rise, so if you blow through 225 degrees, it will take longer and be more difficult to get it back down. The time period. There is a way to do it, but it takes patience. As mentioned above, this grill will carry its heat for a long time, allowing you to cook very long at 225 degrees if you need to. In summary, we can say that The grill can be used in the traditional manner, i. e. getting it hot and cooking it quickly, or more slowly to cook your food at a slower rate. Patient preparation and charcoal and Rutland fire starter square are the first ingredients in a slow cooker's recipe. As you wait for the desired temperature to be reached, be patient. Make adjustments slowly and carefully (10 minutes) to observe the effect it has on the temperature. You need to be patient. Did I mention that? Please accept my appreciation for reading this article and I hope that it in some small way makes you appreciate your new grill more. I edited the text on 10/13/2016 to correct typos This is my second summer using the grill and I would like to share a couple of tips I have found helpful. 2) Small, conventional charcoal seems to work well when you want to cook things quickly, such as burgers. Voici some examples Use small charcoal chunks instead of huge lumps of charcoal if you want to whip up a quick burger. In my case, I just use the dregs from my lump charcoal bag, although I'm pretty sure conventional briquettes would also work. If you are cooking a lot of burgers, you should use a combination of small charcoal and lump charcoal to make your grill last longer. 2) Don't forget to clean out the bottom trap every now and then. This chore is easy to overlook, but it has a significant effect on the ability of the unit to move air properly.
