My opinion is the same as yours. It was hard to follow the directions and the diagram was of no use. The solution finally dawned on me. Therefore, it does at least work. The dispenser should be divided into two halves. Put the larger portion of the dispenser on a table, so that the interior chamber faces upward and the slotted openings are at 12 o'clock. You now need to turn the spool (roll) of address labels counterclockwise so that the end of the ribbon feeds off in a counterclockwise direction. As you insert the spool into the dispenser, feed the loose end through the slot on the far left (from inside to outside). Take the loose end of the thread and feed it through the slot to the very right of the clear plastic bar. I believe that people with larger fingers may experience pain because of this. A couple of inches should be pulled out. You need to replace the cover on the dispenser. I found it easier to put the labels down, so I did that. It might be easier to place the spool in the opposite direction, but always begin feeding from the left slot instead. The same procedure is followed as before. Ultimately, you need to make the decision that is right for you.

It is a great product, with great labels it sticks well, and the gold letters on black letters are easy to read it even works great when threaded correctly however, the directions are quite They are still the same as when I ordered them before. A picture is included of how to thread it so it works the way it was meant to. When you take off the cover, you can see the slot closest to the beginning of the roll, which has a slide-in slot that the labels and backing are pulled through. Place the backing paper back through the second slot (not with the label attached, just the backing), then pull it out through the third slot (I use a needle to pull the backing through the slot) and replace the cover. By pulling the backing, the label will detach from the backing and can be pulled out. Since the first label I removed does not snap into place very well, and the roll falls out, I use that label to thread the cover on to the base because it tends to fall off and the roll falls out and the cover falls off. Getting so irritated that I flipped the stickers around and used the container to keep my labels in place. With that said, I got the labels in clear. *NO the letters don't rub off*YES the container is hard to thread*YES I'd buy it again. *NO the letters rub off*YES they stuck just fine*YES I'd purchase it.
It is fine to use the address labels, but there is something to be desired in regards to the dispenser. It is impossible to snap on the dispenser lid or lock it in place I have to spend 5 minutes fishing back labels each time I pick up the dispenser because the lid comes off every time I pick it up. After you are done cleaning out your dispenser, seal it with packaging tape to prevent the lid from falling off. I did this in order to keep it from falling off during operation.
Here's the clue. In order to use the "third" slot, you must cut a very thin slit through which you feed the roll paper. I slit the paper to separate it from the label using this fine slit. The first thing one notices is that it is not obvious. In addition, you can remove the labels without the feeder so there is no real loss if you can't figure out how to use it. As far as labels go, they are great and I'll be ordering them again when needed.
