Water-based ink is included in the stamp unit's pad. Other inks can be used, but it all depends on what you'll be stamping and how frequently you'll need to replace the stamp pad.
The one I have covers the years 2019 through 2030.
It comes with a slide-out tray for reloading the pads with ink. I've been using it 40 times a day for the past 5 months, and it's still looking great.

Everything is in a sans serif font, such as arial, including the top, month, year, and custom area at the bottom. The two-digit date number, on the other hand, is written in a serif font, such as Times New Roman. It appears to be a mistake to combine two fonts in one stamp. I'm not sure who came up with this, but it's not as it appears on the product page. Out of sheer annoyance, I'm considering returning it. br>br>It works fine, but it looks a little silly.
This was purchased for use in the classroom and for grading papers. The two-tone ink and the ability to change the date were perfect for me. As my school went 95% electronic with no warning to us teachers, I wish I could have used it more as I could have used it more as I could have used it I'll definitely use it again when I return to a school where pen and paper are still used!.
