4 inches on both sides
They're made up of two parts. The bookends are holding up well under the weight of about ten heavy college textbooks. There was absolutely no slipping.
I'm not sure how many ounces they weigh, but they're substantial enough to support 14 books.
Alloy made of zinc. Because they are much heavier than stainless steel, they make excellent bookends.

I would strongly suggest it. This is a one-of-a-kind and stunning work of art. The most important feature is that it is sturdy enough to hold even large photo albums. I'm not sure if it's chrome or steel, but it's heavy, which is great, and the finish is perfect.
I purchased these to store couple's counseling books in my therapy office because I adore the design, which is perfect for the purpose. However, even as general bookends in a home, these are exquisitely designed, solidly constructed, and ideal for holding whatever books you have in mind. And, if that wasn't enough, they were also shipped in a lovely package - they are treated with the tenderness they deserve br>br>My instinct is to buy about 5 more sets of these for myself and/or as gifts. Because I need to keep track of my spending, I have to fight the urge. But they're THAT nice. (And I'm still thinking about getting them. ).
WOW, I've earned a C-. My next Home Theater grand experience in Vision and Sound is guarded by 3P0 twin cyborgs, who speak eloquently. These are far too heavy for any book I own, but the sculpture is fascinating and finished beautifully. There is a black version of this pair, but I think these silver highly polished ones look great.
These were ordered for a collection of about 35 books, of various styles and sizes, that I have on a table. They are attractive and do not slip, and they hold a lot more books than I anticipated, especially given some of the other reviews. These have been in my possession for quite some time and are still in good condition. I'm going to buy another pair for a different room in the house. It is highly recommended.
Love it! The new world order book was brought along with it. I like to arrange the books as if they're about to be delivered. br>br>The fact that the men statues appear to be holding books is extremely cute. br>br>The book holders are substantial, with a long flat support beneath them. You can stack as many books as you want without fear of them sliding around. Three books are my favorites.
It's difficult to pull a book from the bottom of a stack if it's lying flat - Without some level of stability, it was impossible to stand them upright. To complete the task, I knew I'd need bookends. I came across these while searching on Amazon and fell in love with the style and design. I didn't want to settle for any old bookend, and I really like how these appear to be constantly pushing the books together on both sides. These are sturdy and easily hold my books, while still looking stylish even on my cluttered desk. - I am extremely pleased. It is strongly suggested.
This isn't going to be like everyone else's! I was blown away by how nice these turned out. I'm not sure how sturdy they'd be for a large number of heavy fooks, but for a few on a hall display or sofa table, they're stunning. The books are securely mounted on a piece that is several incites back from the "people," making it suitable for any display. I enjoy unique items that no one else has, and this certainly fit the bill.
