It is estimated that the light wire is approximately 9 feet in length. Attached at the end of the wire is a compartment that can hold a battery whose length is approximately 3 1/8 inches.

Runs the device on batteries or does it require an external power source?

Sadly, you cannot purchase this item anymore as it is run by batteries.

During my time coaching the LEGO League, I learned these types of lightboards are used primarily as displays. The cost on this was nearly as low as the others, but I liked the ability to order as many as I needed and have them all look similar. I loved how easy they were to install and how they looked. With this option, the lamp will stay on while your poster is laying on the table and will not get hot. If you want a little something extra on your poster boards, these lights will do the trick.
