Questions & Answers

How does this stand compare to, say, propping up the laptop with a brick or a phone book? I'm not sure why I'd pay $35 for something like this. ?

I'll give it a shot because no one else has responded seriously. Bricks will scratch the bottom of your laptop, won't draw any heat away from it, and won't provide any cord management options, as this does. Furthermore, the slant creates a better angle for the screen than the bricks would. The phone book will suffocate your laptop, causing it to overheat (never place your laptop on soft items like phone books - they can cause it to overheat). If you must use a book, choose old encyclopedias) because they will trap heat and raise the temperature of the computer. Last but not least, there are four bricks. the minimum number of people required to hold a 13-year-old child According to previous comments, the 15" Macbook Pro - Although bricks may match your decor better than this stand and are not nearly as stylish or easy to move as this stand, they do weigh more and are not nearly as stylish or easy to move as this stand; however, bricks may match your decor better than this stand, in which case, go for it.

So the stand's sole purpose is to "balance" the laptop? That's how it appears; in other words, how stable is the laptop when it's resting on this stand?

It's solid and well-balanced. I use it to hold a 17-inch MacBook, and I've never had to worry about it tipping over. When the laptop is on the stand, I occasionally use the keyboard directly, and it doesn't bounce or shake much.

Is this stand tall enough for a wireless keyboard to be placed underneath it and type on?

The front of the stand has about 3 inches of height clearance, and the base of the stand has about 3 inches of overhang. When I slide my Apple wireless keyboard under the stand until it reaches the base, the overhanging stand covers about half of the keyboard, leaving enough room to type comfortably. Right now, I'm typing with the keyboard tucked under the stand, and I'm not hitting the laptop or the stand.br>EDIT: Just in case I misinterpreted your question, I assumed you meant the keyboard could be placed in front of the base but under the overhang. br>IF your question was whether the keyboard could sit ON the base of the stand and completely beneath the top of the stand, I agree with the answers below that say it's technically possible, but the keyboard won't fit well under there, you won't be able to see the keyboard, and your hands will hit the top of the stand.

This item appears to be useful, but I'm looking for something foldable that I can take to school and coffee shops with me. Do you have any recommendations?

The Elevator Laptop Stand from Griffin Technology has the same aluminum look as the Elevator Laptop Stand from Griffin Technology, but it comes in smaller pieces that are easier to pack in a backpack for travel and working on the go.

Purchase a non-swiveling version of the mStand
3/5

This isn't even close to the original mStand, which is much more durable and ensures that your laptop is safe. This round base has a smaller footprint, and it's simple to rock off the circular base and touch the stand's edges (imagine a tricycle tipping). The disc is loose when I turn the stand on its side and spin it. There is no room to tighten the base because the set screw was seated as far as it can go from the factory. There's a lot of slop in the machined surface. Because aluminum is milled rather than stamped like steel, there's no reason why the tolerance isn't tighter. A rough spot (grind) can be felt every 1/8th of a rotation when spinning the base (for those of you who think the noise is only because it's upside down, I discovered the noise while it was sitting right-side up). side up). The laptop swivels far too easily when the stand is rotated, and there is no way to tighten the base to add a little friction. The stand is also far more adaptable than the previous mStand. In general, this model is not as luxurious as previous models. br>br>The ring in the back of the stand is loose and keeps popping out from time to time. I can tell it's not up to par with the others I've had in the past. Because there are wavy gaps at the seam of the plastic and the metal stand, as well as a deformation in the milling where the circular opening is, I believe the opening in the back was poorly formed or the plastic was molded incorrectly (it appears to be both). It's only cosmetic, but on the other stands, that ring has never popped out, and this one has separated three times in the first ten minutes of handling. br>br>To Rain Design, you've either switched fabricators to save money or your fabricator has cut corners to boost profits. Your product's manufacturing quality appears to be slackening. I would have purchased an older mStand instead if I had known that the stand was no longer premium. I don't have my original stand, but I believe the opening is made of soft molded rubber rather than plastic trim, though I can't verify this. I can see the difference in quality over the course of three years of using mStand products and I'm disappointed. So that everyone can see I'm not exaggerating, I've included images and video.

This is a fantastic Macbook Pro stand; I love it and it fits my 15" Macbook Pro perfectly
5/5

The aluminum material is a nice match. Very strong. Despite the fact that I have a Mac with a clear shell. It protects my Mac from the elements by elevating it above the surface of my bar. It's almost worthwhile to purchase as a spill insurance policy. On the underside, I added a Blu-ray drive as well as a USB/card reader port. As a result, it now serves primarily as a utility dock. This is a fantastic setup!.

This is a stand that I adore! This stand is not only stylish (it looks like something Apple would make), but it is also at an ideal height and incline for typing, with plenty of room underneath my laptop to store my external hard drive
5/5

The cat likes to sleep under there as well. ) I strongly advise you to purchase this item. br>br>UPDATE (2- 18): Although the cat no longer fits under it as easily, I continue to use and enjoy this stand.

Rain Design refuses to fix a known flaw in the product
3/5

I contacted Rain Design's customer service when the rubber bumpers on my stand started to fall off. "Unfortunately, the pads do fall off over time," they said, before suggesting that I pay $6 for more bumpers. The mstand is a high-end product that costs twice as much as the Amazon brand laptop stand; if the manufacturer is aware that the bumpers will fall off, they should fix the adhesive rather than expecting customers to pay for new bumpers on a regular basis.

I had the same issue as a lot of other people who were giving this product
3/5

I had the same issue as many others when it came to giving this product one star. The rubber grips that keep the laptop in place come off after a short time, and I once returned home to find my laptop had fallen off the stand and onto the floor due to the grips failing to stay in place. By the way, I'm single and don't have a cat or dog, so it wasn't knocked off by someone else or a pet. If your laptop is important to you, don't buy this product!.

Although well-made, it is not suitable for prolonged typing
4/5

Let's face it: there is no such thing as a perfect solution. Setting your laptop on the table makes typing more comfortable, but the screen is too low, and you risk injuring your neck over time; raising it with a stand like this raises the screen to a better height, but the keyboard is in an awkward position - It's too high and at an angle that forces you to work a little against gravity. Personally, I'd prefer something with a lower height and a more slanted angle. Although it is possible to avoid neck strain by simply looking downward with one's eyes, there is no way to avoid the height and angle of the stand causing arm and hand strain after long periods of typing. br>br>The display is very well-made. made to perfection, both in terms of appearance and sturdiness Just think about how you'll use the stand: if you'll be watching videos or using an external keyboard, it'll be ideal. This isn't an apples-to-apples comparison if you plan on doing a lot of typing, but an external monitor is much better.

After a month, conduct a review
3/5

When I first saw it, I was blown away. I frequently use the product in conjunction with my 16-inch Mac Book Pro on a daily basis for several hours at a time, which means I am frequently typing away on the product doing work of some sort. br>br>Fast forward a month, and the small circular adhesives that hold the laptop in place have begun to fall off. Another week has passed, and yet another piece of adhesive has come loose. br>br>As a result, my brand new Macbr>book fell to the ground twice while resting on the stand; thankfully, my Mac did not break, but it does feel like a cheap chinese product, which is disappointing because at this price you would expect quality construction. DO NOT BE DUPed BY THE FIVE STAR REVIEWS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS ITEM FOR LESS THAN A MONTH.
