Questions & Answers

I see that this scanner isn't great for color art, but what about black-and-white or grayscale?

Greetings, Connor.br> 1180 is a good choice for black/white or grayscale scanning. The CIS sensor is ideal for scanning images in black and white or grayscale. br> The reason CIS isn't good for color is that CCD sensors with "depth of field" use a lot of mirrors to add distance, whereas CIS sensors can't. Large-scale projects benefit from this
5/5

Size scanning, great value, and the best technical support I've ever experienced. I am completely enamored with this scanner. I've been working on decluttering my overflowing file cabinets by tossing out what I don't need and scanning what I do. Newspaper clippings and other larger items that my previous scanner couldn't handle were among the keepers- Aside from scanning them in pieces, there isn't much else you can do with them. As a result, I began looking for a large-scale project. Scanner of various formats Is this the best large-screen television? br>br> on the market for a large-format scanner? That is determined by your criteria and the amount of money you are willing to spend. Here's why I think it's the best option for me. br>1) If you compare the costs of large-scale projects, you will notice that they are more expensive. This is a fantastic deal for scanners of any size. If you're trying to scan fine art, it might not be the right tool for the job. In order for me to be able to have high-quality food, It was a screamin' deal, def, clear copies of valuable but commonplace items. br>2) It has an excellent user interface that is both intuitive and simple to operate. It took me a while (perhaps 20 minutes) to figure out how to do it. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how everything worked, which isn't bad. It also comes with detailed instructions. br>3) It has a lot of fine tuning options, such as color/BW, resolution/dpi, JPG/PDF, and so on. br>4) I couldn't get it to work at first and was about to return it. I dialed tech support and was connected to a live person. After a pre-recorded menu, he's no longer a human. The phone was picked up by a real person. I was walking through troubleshooting with the helpful and knowledgeable tech support rep who answered the phone, and I discovered a huge, embarrassing, rookie mistake. The USB cable wasn't completely plugged in. The customer service representative was extremely accommodating. br>5) Perhaps most importantly, this scanner produces crisp, high-resolution images. scans of high quality Yay! The mission has been completed. br>(I'd really appreciate it if you could click the "Helpful" button if you found this review helpful. ) Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Liz).

It's not for artwork, but it should be fine otherwise
3/5

As a result, I purchased this scanner for the purpose of creating artwork. It appeared to have the "same specs" as my current scanner, which does an excellent job but only prints in letter size. I called the help desk number (only found on the CD inside the box) and spoke with their tech guy after spending some time "fussing" with it and getting "childish" scans out of it. In essence, This isn't a place to put your art. Their advice was to return it, purchase the next model up (roughly $200), and purchase third-party software - which is incompatible with my current 3rd-party software I'm returning this because it serves no purpose for me. However, if you're just scanning text/books/etc. and aren't looking for high-resolution images, you can skip this step. This scanner will work for you if you need high-quality color scanning (just regular color will suffice). br>br>I'm annoyed that they're advertising it as "for artwork" because. It's not the case. It is not, according to Plustek. Furthermore, their website did not recognize the Serial Number, and I never received confirmation as to whether it was a "real" Plustek scanner or a knockoff: br>br> They were, however, more than willing to assist me. br>br>In the end, the OpticSlim 1180 isn't a good choice for artwork or high-quality color scans. They suggested the A320. What I'll do next is a mystery to me. I don't want to pay the extra money for a new scanner AND the extra-cost of the additional-cost of the additional-cost of the additional-cost of the additional-cost of the additional extra for a third-party program that requires me to uninstall my current (VueScan) in order to function properly. VueScan and the other software (Silverfast), it appears, do not get along. Their software isn't any better. It is claimed that having both on your computer will cause Silverfast to malfunction. br>br>Until I can get an Epson, I'll probably just keep "stitching" larger pieces together. I'm going to give the A320 a shot with my current software and see how it goes. I dunno.

In a tabloid, there's a lot of money to be made

scanner of a certain size 12/2020 UPDATE: UPDATE: UPDATE: UPDATE: UPD br>I recently replaced this with the more advanced/expensive Plustek OpticPro A320L after 212 years of dependable service. The reason for this is that the A320L's CCD scanning can produce better results on certain types of materials than this model's CIS scanning, including some that I'm currently scanning. A brief explanation can be found on the A320L's Amazon page. Just type "CIS vs CCD scanning" into Google to learn more. br>br>I'd like to emphasize that this OpticSlim 1180 has been completely satisfactory for a wide range of scanning requirements. I don't understand why people complain that the scans are "too dark. " In the software that comes with it, you have complete control over how dark or light the scans are, and it's a simple adjustment to get lighter scans. ORIGINAL REVIEW: 7/2017 ORIGINAL REVIEW: 7/2017 ORIGINAL REVIEW: 7/2017 ORIGINAL REVIEW: 7/2017 ORIGINAL RE br>This is a very basic scanner in terms of functionality. One can be obtained for the price of one. fifth, a price that is comparable in all ways - WITH THE EXCEPTION that the scan area is only half as large. This appears to be the most budget-friendly large-scale project. By a wide margin, this is the best flatbed scanner on the market, and it will suffice for the vast majority of applications. br>br>While I'm wary of color fidelity on LED scanners in general, it doesn't appear to be an issue here. Two scans of a standard IT-related document are being uploaded. 7/IS- The target color is 12641. The first was created using basic scanning software, while the second was created using VueScan. (There will be no prizes for figuring out which one is which. ) ) This tells me that the OS1180 is more than capable of scanning reflective media, with the exception of the most demanding jobs. However, if you're looking for a high-quality product, look no further. To get high-quality scans, you'll need a high-end scanner. software of high quality It's also not found growing on trees or in the street. That is to say, if you want high-quality scans of high-resolution documents, you must factor in the cost of VueScan or a comparable package (if one exists). materials of high quality br>br>The scanner comes with a CD that includes a PDF version of the manual, the driver, a copy of ABBYY FineReader 12 Sprint, and other scanner utility software. On the Plustek Web site, there's a new driver (actually two, one for Mac and one for PC) that promises better color scans. (I used it to make the scans I'm posting. ) ) On my Windows 10 PC, the installation from the CD went fairly smoothly. However, with the new driver, it took me several tries to get it to install without causing Norton Security to malfunction. Neither the old nor the new driver have been completely reliable. The scanner will stop working in one of several ways at random times. The driver must be closed and re-installed. Start the scanner, which should usually solve the problem. Although it isn't a major issue, it occurs frequently enough to be irritating. br>br>Scanning books two pages at a time is one of the most common uses for a large scanner; the ABBYY FineReader 12 Sprint that comes with the scanner is probably the best of the "lite" OCR apps and works well for double-sided scanning. Scanning the pages Although it comes with the OS1180, it can also be used with other scanners if you have them. br>br>The scanner, in theory, has four "built-in" scanning functions that can be accessed via buttons: scan, e- e-mail, OCR, and PDF are all acceptable methods of communication. They haven't worked out for me; They cause scanner activity, followed by a pop-up message that says "generic error. " a wake-up call If you work hard enough with the software, you can probably get them to work, but I haven't.
