Epson Perfection Photo Scanner V39 (Renewed)

I was given the task of digitizing four large family photo albums, which totaled around a thousand photographs. Almost all of them were 3x5 or 4x6, but scanning them with my multifunction printer required two separate scans, with a border dragging in the middle to define the final scan. Each photo took several minutes (or so it seemed), and I knew I'd never be able to finish without becoming irritated, which isn't really appropriate for a family memory preservation task. br>I went on a photo-shooting spree. a specific scanner, ideally one with an auto-detect feature I tried to automate as much as I could with the feeder, but I came up short. After doing some research and reading a few reviews, it appeared that it was missing the auto-pilot feature. This printer might be exactly what I need. I took a risk and ordered it because it was reasonably priced. br>I've now scanned photos of my children and family for several hours and am quite pleased with the unit. The biggest surprise was that the scan quality was noticeably better than the multifunction printer, even at the same DPI. The truth is that removing the photos from the waxy album sheets and their clear plastic covers takes the majority of the time in this task. The scanner just keeps going, and it takes me about a minute to load a photo, scan it, put it in the 'done' pile, and move on to the next. Would an autofeeder make things go faster in the long run? Maybe a little, but the scanner spends the majority of the time in the above sequence determining the size of each photo placed on the glass and then doing whatever it takes to scan only the image. It takes two passes, just like the multifunction unit, but the passes are automated and do not require any intervention other than removing the photo when the process is finished. The photos are saved in JPG format, and the filename is auto-generated from the three-digit number. With each new scan, the number is increased. I'm running Windows 7, and the included Epson software saves the scanned documents to the Library's 'Pictures' section. I'm almost finished with the first album, so I think I'll be able to complete it in a reasonable amount of time.

There are so many issues. This is a scanner that you should not purchase. This scanner was purchased with the intention of producing high-resolution images. images of my artwork in high resolution. I initially found the instructions to be a little perplexing, but I figured it out. br>After that, I put the scanner's software on my computer. I followed the installation instructions to the letter and completed all of the necessary steps. After that, I attempted to scan something. That was the start of the first problem. br>br>I positioned a piece of my artwork on the scanner bed and launched the appropriate software on my computer. After that, I attempted to turn on the scanner. A small window appeared in the software that read: "There was no scanner found. " " Okay. So I tried resetting the program by plugging the USB cable into a different port. The problem is the same. I went through this process several times, plugging the cable into each of my computer's four USB ports at least three times. br>I tried scanning the picture with the scanner's buttons, but it didn't work. I tried restarting the computer and starting over, but that didn't work either. Finally, I decided to give it another shot. the scanner software is being installed I removed the program, restarted my computer, and then reinstalled it. the software was set up After that, I went back to scanning. That's when the second problem appeared. br>br>Following my re-evaluation, After installing the software, the scanner was able to connect, and I was able to scan the picture once more. I'd like to point out that it took about a minute for the program to finally open, and it took about ten to twenty seconds for any clicking I did within the program to be registered. It also crashed nearly every time I tried to open it. br>Getting back to the point: the product description, operating manual, box, and the scanner itself all stated that it could scan at 4800dpi. So, trusting the description and all, I attempted a 4800dpi scan. br>The software then displayed a message stating that I was unable to scan at that resolution. It did not provide an explanation as to why this was the case. I gave it another shot and got the same result. I experimented with a resolution of 1200 dpi. Same. Thing. Happened. I tried 600dpi and was also unable to do so. After that, it stated that the scanner was ready to scan. But. It could only scan at a resolution of 300 dpi. The scan was done at 300dpi, and that's when issue number three arose. br>br>A 300dpi scan of the image was successfully completed. After that, I attempted to save it. The software isn't very user-friendly in the first place. I had to consult the manual and the internet several times before figuring out how to save the scanned image. I followed the instructions to the letter. However, as you might expect, the program gave me an error message stating that the image could not be saved - Again, no explanation was given as to why this was the case. After that, the program shut down. I went through the process once more. The program crashed eight times before finally working on the ninth attempt. The image had been saved, according to the message. When I got to the destination folder, I discovered that the image had not been saved at all. I searched the entire hard drive for the image but couldn't find it, so I tried again to save it. The application failed to start. I repeated the process three times, following the same pattern each time. I tried troubleshooting the program and looking for tech support online, but none of the'solutions' worked at all. br>br>So, I re-installed the program. the software was set up The same thing happened every time, with the same problems. I re- Multiple times and in different orders, I installed the software, restarted my computer, and checked for updates on my computer. But the program had the same problems every time; for the record, I checked the system requirements for the scanner's operation, and my system far exceeded them all. br>br>After about ten more attempts, something finally seemed to work. The key word here seems to be "seemed. " I started the program, connected the scanner, and it didn't crash, allowing me to scan at 4800dpi. I'd like to stress how user-friendly it is once more. The software is not user-friendly. Despite spending an hour and a half reading the manual and conducting online research, the program remained difficult to understand. And this is coming from a man who isn't a complete moron when it comes to such things. In any case, I pressed the "scan" button. But, lo and behold, another error window appeared, this time stating that I was unable to scan at 4800dpi. It gave an explanation this time: The image took up too much space on my hard drive. I had over a Terabyte of free space on my hard drive, far more than enough for the file's estimated size! I tried scanning again, with the same result, this time using 3600dpi. I experimented with a resolution of 1200 dpi. I experimented with a resolution of 600 pixels per inch (dpi). Every single one of them. I received the same error message this time as well. The scanner then allowed me to scan at 300dpi, just as it had done previously. That worked for a while, but I ran into the same problem with saving as before. br>br>Being the stubborn person that I am, I went through the process of uninstalling the software, restarting my computer, reinstalling the software, troubleshooting, scanning the software for problems, trying the buttons on the scanner itself, scanning at different dpi's, and saving the 300dpi image again and again. I kept track of how many: I went through the process sixteen times, occasionally changing the order of the steps. br>br>However, every time I did, I ran into the same problems that I had been having! br>br>Finally, I decided that enough was enough and returned the scanner. This scanner is one that I strongly advise against purchasing. The software is awful, and it's difficult to figure out how to use it. This scanner should be avoided at all costs.

I bought this scanner in February of this year to back up all of my family's photos. This is a fantastic small scanner. I've scanned over 12,000 photos into it, and it's still going strong! The color correction software that comes with it is also very good (as evidenced by my samples). It worked so well, I couldn't believe it. You can put multiple pictures on the bed, and it's a good idea to separate them into individual images as long as there's about a quarter inch space between them. br>br>Another plus is that it is USB powered and can be easily stored when not in use, so you don't have to worry about a power supply. br>br>This scanner comes highly recommended.

Scanning photos is a breeze with this scanner. when everything is in place It's been three days since I got it, and I've scanned it about ten times. br> After 12 photos, the poor creature died after emitting a death rattle. I considered calling 911, but instead returned it to Amazon. Epson's quality control isn't what it used to be. I reordered it from Amazon in an act of unrivaled heroism. I sincerely hope I will not be sorry. Best of luck to me.

This was purchased in order to scan in old family photos. It's very simple to use, very light, and performs as well as can be expected for the price; some may find it too slow at first, but I found it to be fine once I got into a rhythm; I scanned over 100 photos in an afternoon, though I didn't time myself and took some breaks. The majority of the scans are excellent and will be useful for my genealogical research. This is the model to choose if you want something simple. This is not the model for you if you require extremely high-quality scans.
