Questions & Answers

Is it possible to scan and separate multiple photos at the same time with the scan software? (Multi-photo scanning) scan)?

Yes, you can scan multiple photos at once, and the scanner will separate them and assign each one a unique file name.

I'm curious how well this works with photos. All of my old photos should be digitized. ?

I've scanned quite a few photos with this scanner and am pleased with the results. It functions in the same way as any other scanner. Much depends on the quality of your old photos and how much time you're willing to devote to touch-up work after scanning. br>br>Please keep in mind that the scanner's software is fairly basic. It scans, and that's all there is to it. There will be no touch-ups, cropping, or other editing; you will need to use a third-party solution for that.

Is this scanner capable of scanning documents up to 11" x 17"?

Not without folding the images, scanning them multiple times, and using the software's "stitching" feature. Because I haven't tried it, I can't say how well it works.

If my computer (an older computer) does not have a USB port, Will this scanner work with a type C port?

Yes, you can use this scanner with an older computer because the scanner's USB 3.0 cable connects to the computer. 0 Type- The part that goes into the computer is a connector, and the other end is a USB type-A connector. The scanner's C connector is used.

Yes, it is compatible with Macs
5/5

All of the reviews said it wouldn't work with a MacBook Pro, so I bought it anyway. But, because I thought I was smarter than the other guys, I placed an order for it. I downloaded and installed the Mac-compatible scanner software as soon as it arrived. Download and install the necessary drivers and software from the Canon website. I could see it under Printers and Scanners, and the IJ Scan Utility also worked. As a result, I slapped a photo on the bed and pressed the scan button. Nothing. I restarted my computer and gave it another shot. Nothing. I started over after deleting the apps. On the software side, everything appeared to be in order, but when I tried to scan something, nothing happened. There was no sound, no movement. As a result, I started packing it up to ship it back to Amazon. That's when I realized the scanner's "travel lock" was still on. It did take some effort to get it unlocked. BINGO! I plugged the scanner back into my MacBook Pro, and it worked like a charm. It's a cinch to use. For what it's worth, I believe this was the issue for many of the people who couldn't get it to work on their Mac. It's easy to overlook the bottom-mounted locking mechanism, and the scanning software doesn't indicate that the scanner is locked.

As claimed, it is not Mac compatible
3/5

I should have paid attention to the other review's warning; I thought I'd be able to figure it out, but no; I'm not sure about Windows, but this thing works on MacOS. Not. Work. At all. Several Macs (from 2011 to 2018) were tested, as well as various macOS versions (10. 2, 10. 13, as well as 10. 14), with a variety of scanning software (Photoshop, VueScan, and Canon's own IJ Scan Utility downloaded), as well as a variety of cables (both included and my own). The scanner has been identified as a networked device. On occasion. However, there will be no scanning or previewing. There were no lights, no sounds, and no movement at all. VueScan sees it and recognizes the model number, but I'm guessing it's not officially supported at this time. br>br>I can't imagine Canon tested this with Macs in any way, and it's annoying they claim Mac compatibility, which is just a waste of time. Epson has its own issues, but at least their scanners can work with Macs with some effort. I'm not sure why making a no-fuss scanner is so difficult; they've always been bad and don't seem to improve.

I just tried this LiDE 400 scanner on my laptop running Windows 7 64 bit with the downloaded Canon software and it worked perfectly
5/5

So far, everything I've tried has worked perfectly. I scanned a page with punch holes based on another review, and the scan was perfect. I had no problems scanning photos at 600dpi (the scanning software's maximum resolution). I'm not sure how to get those 4800dpi Canon claims to have, and the cable is just a regular USB to USB-C cable. I tested the scanner with a different cable (a cell phone cable) and it worked just as well, indicating that it is not a proprietary cable. br>Everything seems to be working so far.

MacOS has a problem with the driver
3/5

I updated the scanner's driver and connected it to my Mac running Mac OS X. The scanner begins to warm up, indicating that the port has been turned on. The scanner is detected by the IJ Scan utility, but scanning is unsuccessful. /var/log/system is a directory that stores log files. The LIDE driver is crashing, as evidenced by the log. Not suitable for use on a Mac.

Some documents have poor image quality
3/5

Due to the fact that the document was in a looseleaf notebook, I scanned it with punch holes in the left margin. Black/gray thick vertical lines appear from the left edge of the hole to where it actually ends in the locations where the holes are. Other, lighter noise lines appear beneath these. br>br>Also, the 1/4 inch closest to the glass on the left side and bottom of the glass does not capture an image. This has resulted in the cutting off of handwritten notes in the margins in my case. Although it is mentioned in the documentation, I had never noticed it on my previous scanner. br>br>I scanned the same image with my Fujitsu ScanSnap and it captured the entire image with no vertical black lines. br>br>Aside from that, the Windows 10 installation went smoothly. br>br>Also, keep in mind that the cable that comes with it (USB-C) is not the same as the cable that comes with the computer. C to USB3) is exclusive to this device, so you'll have to buy it from Canon if you want to replace it. To get the best results, the documentation recommends connecting it to a powered USB 3 port. It's unclear whether or not this can be plugged into a USB 2 port. For instance, consider the 0 hub. This was not an issue for me because I have a USB 3 powered hub. It is powered by the USB 3 cable and does not require a separate power supply. I believe the provided cable is too short. br>br>I will return this item because it does not meet my requirements.

I have a late 2013 IMAC running Mojave, and I was able to plug it into the MAC and use the native "Image Capture" program found in the applications folder to capture images
5/5

Remember to unlock the "unlock" switch when you first get the scanner; otherwise, it will not work right out of the box (I believe it is locked to protect the scanning camera during transportation). The scanner worked perfectly after I discovered that the switch was locked. I used it to scan some old photographs into my computer, and it produces some excellent high-resolution replicas. I would strongly suggest it.

It also appears to be incompatible with Windows 10
3/5

When I first tried to scan it on Windows 10, it said "cannot communicate with scanner, USB is unplugged. " Well, there's only one cable, and it's very simple to connect, so that's not the issue. I tried two different USB ports: 1. 0 and 3. 0 is the same result. I went to the Canon community forum and looked for a solution. Their scanners have been having issues with Windows 10 for at least three years, according to them. I'm not sure why Canon doesn't fix or at least publicize a solution to this problem. Unfortunately, I've been using Canon scanners for years and will now have to switch.

It's a cinch to use
5/5

This scanner performs admirably. Furthermore, Canon's software is simple to install and operate. The following are a few of the more positive aspects: If you keep adding pages to a document as you scan it, the software will save it as a multi-page document. page pdf. It's also light; br>br> I keep it leaning against the wall between my desk and the wall, and I simply pull it out, connect it to my laptop, scan, and then replace it. It takes up no space on your desk or on a shelf. br>br>Strongly suggested. br>br>.
