Questions & Answers
This brush has been used to spread soft butter on freshly baked bread. For bread, the bristles are ideal. What I like about these versus traditional pastry brushes is that they're more affordable. It's easier to clean and there aren't any hairs on it. There is no metal or rust, unlike some pastry brushes I've used in the past.
I haven't decided yet. I looked at the brush and couldn't find any information about where it was made. I looked at their website as well, but there was no response. It did state that it was free of BPA.
At the top and end, the brush is 1 1/2" wide. At the widest point in the middle, it's nearly 2" (1 7/8").
Thank you for asking this question, Sherine. Our basting brush does not have a silicone handle. It's constructed of a long-lasting, chemical-resistant material. Polypropylene is a heat-resistant polymer. While the silicone end of the brush (the bristles) can withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, the handle should not be exposed to direct heat, such as a grill. The heat-resistant bristles are designed to withstand the high temperatures of hot foods, sauces, and other items on a grill, but the handle is only for holding by hand. I hope you find this information useful.

I've found this to be one of the best silicone pastry brushes I've ever come across. Bristle brushes didn't hold up well in the dishwasher, so I stopped using them. However, I've had a lot of trouble finding a silicone brush that I like. They either couldn't hold enough egg wash to get the job done or it would pool all over the place, causing other problems. Being able to toss this in the dishwasher and remove the head for cleaning is a huge plus for me.
I specifically inquired about the removable head before purchasing this. Every time I asked if this was all one piece or if the brush was glued on, I was told no. NOT! Before using it, I gave it a good wash with warm soapy water and noticed suds coming out of the seam. I then attempted to remove the brush part, but it was not bard, but it is attached to the brush with ridges, so it will remain in place until you want to wash it. Which is fine, but for safety and germ reasons, I needed a basting brush that was all one piece. I haven't tried it yet, but it appears to be of high quality and pliable enough to brush egg wash or melted butter on rolls, bread, or pastry. I only wish I'd been told the truth when I first asked the question. How could purchasers be unaware that the brush component is removable? I have a better question. They have no idea what lives between the handle and the brush of their basting brush. ewww! After a few uses, I'll revise my opinion. I left the question of durability blank because I haven't had the opportunity to test it yet. br>UPDATE 2/6/19: I used this recipe to make an egg wash for homemade brioche buns. a complete failure It doesn't hold anything and is too rough on rolls and buns, so I'm returning it. Regrettably, I had high hopes for it. I don't think it'll hold enough BBQ sauce to be useful for that, either.
Would do it again/recommend it to others. I bought this brush to replace a natural bristle brush that took too long to clean and required too much water. It's very simple to clean this silicone bristle brush. Because oil does not stick to the silicone bristle like it does to a natural bristle brush, applying oil with this brush takes a little more finesse. I'm sure that will improve as I become more accustomed to using this brush style. I'm very pleased with the quality and how easy it is to clean.
This brush is one of my favorites. With the first BBQ of the season, I melted the first brush I bought (from a different brand). I was so disappointed that I stopped using sauce and replaced it with rub (which is delicious on its own). The sauce on chicken, on the other hand, was something I missed. So I bought this little brush because it promised a lot. This tiny brush lives up to its name. I'm going to keep this little brush and use it to reapply my sauce to the chicken I'm eating. There was no melting or clumping of the brush's ends, and it washed clean in the dishwasher without leaving any stains or odor. THIS BRUSH IS PERFECT FOR ME. I'm sure it will stain over time, but that just means I liked it a lot, just not as much as my husband did.
When I was making "Hawaiian sandwiches(recipe on all-recipes. com), my pastry brush was ripping up the bread. recipes and they're a total slam dunk! ) to glaze the buns with poppy seeds; it didn't drip at all from dish to bun, so it was well worth it! I was able to bast quickly and effectively without making a huge mess! In my opinion, it is priceless! It's wonderful when something simply works as it should, and this is one of those occasions. After that, I ran it through the dishwasher. Nothing stuck in the bristles, and it's a breeze!.
A wooden basting brush with what appeared to be hairs was previously used. It was a pain because you couldn't put it in the dishwasher, and handwashing didn't seem to remove all of the residue, and the hairs would fall out - on whatever you were brushing your teeth with! This silicone basting brush works wonderfully. We've used it on food that's just come out of the oven and it's held up well. It can be washed in the dishwasher, making cleanup a breeze. It doesn't leave any residue after being washed in the dishwasher or by hand. The most enjoyable aspect - The bristles are more flexible and do not break or fall out!.
My old, natural bristle basting brush has been replaced by the "Pastry Brush. " The dishwashing machine can be used to clean it. The soft, pliable silicone "bristles" – measuring 12" X 12" X 14" when used for basting – cover a larger area than my old basting brush when used for basting. The Kitchen Joy brush does not harm bread dough or pastry dough when used on unbaked goods. The clear acrylic handle is lightweight and comfortable to hold. The retro-styled The turquoise color of the brush head, as well as the company name and logo, remind me of my mother's 1950s kitchen. "Kitchen Joy Silicone Basting Brush" is a product from Kitchen Joy. The "Pastry Brush" was packaged in a clear cellophane bag with no country-specific information. It is noted that the source of the information is unknown.
This is a fantastic brush. Because of the synthetic bristles, I was a little skeptical. I was used to using a baster with a brush. This can hold a lot of marinade, distribute it easily, and clean up is a breeze. So far, it appears to be brand new. If there was one thing I could suggest, it would be to provide one with a longer handle. When I use this brush to baste a dry meat like venison, I use oils and fat that flare up, so I have to move my hand quickly out of the way.
