Questions & Answers
This meter is programmed to alert you when it's time to re-calibrate. There will be a pH symbol in the bottom right corner, along with a check mark. approximately once every five years The check mark will vanish after 6 weeks (this may vary depending on usage), indicating that it is time to recalibrate. You have to go out of your way to find it, but you eventually get used to it. If you are late in noticing this, it will not harm you as long as you do not wait months to calibrate. The calibration of this pen is excellent. However, it performs best when kept in the Bluelab-designed storage solution. I prefer this pen to all others in its price range because I have found it to be extremely dependable.
Yes, it is powered by a single AAA battery that is included.
This is something I just finished. Blue lab advised that I double-check the following: Before calibrating, I had thoroughly cleaned the pen, ensured that it was properly hydrated, and that the calibration fluids were new. With all of those boxes checked, they offered to send me an rma number and a 4-digit phone number. There is a 6-week return period. If you bought your pen recently, I'd contact Amazon customer service first. Best of luck.
Yes, the cap contains a small piece of sponge material that can be used as a storage solution whenever the cap is worn. If you'll be using your pen on a regular basis, I recommend getting a small glass cup (the 100ml measuring cups work well) and storing your storage solution in it, rather than constantly removing and replacing the cap. To keep in the pen cup, I usually mix 20ml of storage solution with 30ml of distilled water.
Selected User Reviews For Bluelab PENPH pH Pen, Digital Meter for Water with Easy Two Point Calibration and Double Junction Probe Test Kit for Hydroponic System and Indoor Plant Grow, White
I purchased this blue lab PH pen because I needed more precise readings than the solution PH testing kit could provide. (Add drops to the small clear container, shake to agitate, and record color reading) But the consistency of this PH pen is a joke. My $2 testing kit consistently gives consistent results, but this PH pen seems to have its own mind, with readings varying from day to day with the same solution mixture. (And keep in mind that I start with distilled water and measure with oral syringes, so I know I should be getting very consistent results from feed to feed. ) br>br>So I took a chance and bought some more calibration solution. It sort of helps, but it only seems to keep its baseline for a day before reverting to its previous state. If you're a new grower debating whether or not this is a good investment, I'd say no. Get the small solution-based PH testing kit and forget about all the calibration and nonsense that comes with it; thanks to all, and I hope this saves at least one person some money!.
I'm not happy about it because it's not stated anywhere in the description that you'll have to spend another $50. 00 is spent on calibration, cleaning, and hydration solutions. And the tiny packets that come with it aren't even enough to start hydrating the device. Come on, Amazon and Bluelabs, get your act together. This pen is already pricey, so adding extras after the fact is absurd, especially if it isn't stated explicitly in the description.
I should've paid attention to the other reviews that said exactly the same thing. The pen had salt buildup and scratches on it when it arrived. This leads me to believe the pen has been returned previously, which raises the following question: why? br>br>Bluelab pens are highly recommended, and the quality of this pen is dubious at best. br>br>Following instructions on calibration after it's primed with storage solution will tell me if the pen works, but the fact that it's not advertised as used is blatant disregard for your customers.
Well, after three failed blue lab products, qll stored per service manual, I purchased this meter, making a total of four. This meter was purchased due to an urgent need for a ph reading while waiting for technical support to basically tell me to kiss my ass, days and days passed with no response to a simple question. As a result, this meter was purchased in an emergency situation, and it failed after only two months. warranty? Maybe, but who cares, they're all going in the trash; these meters, even after proper calibration every two weeks, have been nothing but troublemakers; I would have been better off not using them at all and taking my chances. Never to be repeated. Make an informed decision.
The box appeared to have been rummaged through when I received it. I didn't give it a second thought. When it wouldn't calibrate, I assumed it was due to an outdated calibration solution. So I went out and purchased a new probe care kit with everything I needed. When I went to begin cleaning and calibrating, I discovered the glass probe was broken, and it was well past the return date. If you buy this pen and the box appears to have been tampered with, return it right away; don't waste time.
When I went to calibrate the pen after soaking it for 24 hours, I got an "Er" on the screen. The calibration is off by a factor of ten. I suppose I'll have to look for a store where I can buy something off the shelf. br>br>The small piece of cardboard inside the box that held the pen appeared to have been opened before, which I thought was strange.
After reading the reviews, I was hesitant to purchase another one, and lo and behold, I was sold a dud pen! The package had already been opened, and the pen appeared to have been used. It had a layer of crusted material on the probe, and after rinsing and calibrating the pen with what was provided, it doesn't read as accurately as my previous blue pens, and it's driving me insane. I'm not happy with this purchase; if they know it's something that dries out and stops working, they should cycle them before selling them, rather than selling a meter that's been sitting on a shelf for years.
It has a user-friendly interface and provides powerful, fast, and accurate computing. In terms of use and design, the difference between a high-quality Bluelab pen and a low-cost alternative is immediately apparent. It has a great backlight display, temperature sensor, automatic on/off, and a solid overall feel. br>br> A AAA battery is preferable to the small watch batteries used by most other pH pens. br>br>Don't waste your time looking at the less expensive options. br>br>"Price friendly" versions are inferior in terms of build quality, accuracy, and product life, not to mention customer support, which is poor, if not non-existent, at the low end of the price spectrum. br>br>Bluelab customer service is excellent, promptly responding to any questions I had. There is also a wealth of information about their products and applications available online, via websites and videos. br>br>Buy an extra bottle of KCl storage solution as well as a pH 4 buffer. 7 for monthly calibration and weekly calibration, respectively.
