There is probably not much of a difference between the radon particles in the water and the background radiation if you were looking at them "directly," unless the amount was significant. Ideally, I would recommend putting the water in a glass or beaker, then setting a monitor on top to take readings from the water. It may be worth asking myself if I can try that and see what results I get.

I am amazed at how long the battery lasts. The device was still at 98% battery life even after leaving it on all day. A very impressive job.
