They are, without a doubt, the best wire nuts I've ever encountered. They are capable of working with a wide range of wire sizes and conductor counts. According to my understanding, the spiral inside of them has room to expand out, which is one of the reasons they can handle such a wide range of sizes. br>br>This evening, I was showing them to a friend, and I decided to show him how they were made by cutting one apart, which resulted in me damaging my wire shears and failing to cut apart the wire nut! These things are made of some seriously tough steel! So, on the left is a 3M wire nut, on the middle is an Ideal wire nut, and on the right is some cheap piece of junk that came with a light. (I can't say if that Ideal wire nut is a modern one or not because I dug both of them out of the bottom of my tool bag from previous jobs) This has solidified my opinion on which wire nuts are the best.
I'm an electrician, and I'm here to help. For the past 15 years, I've been using these nuts. I'm picky about neat splices, and these nuts keep the splice in place while also allowing it to be easily removed if necessary. Let's face it: red Buchanan nuts (or something similar) can splice once, but don't try to reuse them. Half of the time, removing the spring damages it, forcing you to use pliers to remove it before working on the splice or replacing the nut. 3m's tan reds are re-usable. These also have a wide range of approved wire quantities and gauges. Helpers who make their splices too long will benefit from the small rubber "skirt" at the bottom of the nuts. On my truck, I have a supply of tan reds, orange blues, and blue grey nuts.
The wings on them make it easy to twist really tight on larger gauges of wire, which highlights the need for multiple size wire nuts to some extent.
As an electrician, I can attest to the fact that these wire nuts consistently perform admirably. Excellent product.

These are, without a doubt, the best wire nuts on the market.
