Basically yes. The switch part works as a switch, however the 12vdc does not deliver enough power to light a light bulb requiring 120v. Put something else that is made for it in its place. You can find illuminated rocker switches 12 V by searching for them online. My search resulted in plenty of hits.
Neon is a form of lighting. To illuminate, these tiny bulbs need a voltage of fifty volts AC, with a current of two milliamps. For it to work, you'll need 120-volt AC.
The only time it's on is when it's turned on. There is one great feature of these switches they can be easily replaced. You don't want the three wires on the bottom to be mixed up. They should be removed from their position.
Although I'm unsure of the exact amperage rating, I do think it will be too "light" for our needs. Make sure the amp requirements are in line with the specifications.

While all of them worked and fit as they should, none of them were lit. There is an led inside and I bought a 10pk of them, but so far none of them have powered on. One side of the switch has a label reading 1 2 3, and the other side has a label reading 12.
It was used as a replacement for the original switch on my Model 22 I have a Radio Shack power supply 506 that I purchased. The plug was perfectly sized to fit inside the power supply enclosure. In case of a power supply outage, the previous switch was illuminated. If you plug in this device, its LED is illuminated. For me, it's not a major issue since I only need to plug in the power supply when I'm actually using.

While the switch is of good quality, without a wiring diagram, the user is left to figure out which of two switch contacts is to be used for the indicator light instead of the motor contact. It would have been so easy for the seller to simply specify which terminal 1, 2, 3 is to be used. The label on the switch body (which is embossed into it) indicates what the switch is.
